The game itself is great. The story is mostly entertaining, even though the ending isn't the most satisfactory ever and could probably use a third (technically fourth) installment. The main problem are technical issues - on several occasions I had a problem with character voiceover, where a particular sentence in a dialogue would not be spoken, or would be spoken very silently, only to work normally in the next sentence. The game also forze on me twice. And then there's the infamous "dead end bug" mentioned in several reviews already. If you don't have an older save and don't want to replay about half the game again, your only chance is to edit the save game .xml file to fix it yourself... If these minor (and one major) inconvenciences didn't plague the game, I would happily say this is one of the very best AGs of the 2010s. Regardless, it's still highly recommended for adventure games enthusiasts as it is.
When I saw the trailer, I was hooked, but the end product leaves a lot to be desired. The visuals are unique and quite pretty in a quirky way, but that's where to upsides end. What kills the game is the writing and gameplay. The script goes completely off the rails, all the characters are weirdoes and usually act in a completely illogical manner. The gameplay is both too easy, with the inventory puzzles practilly solving themselves and the players' inability to check their own inventory, and often lacking a general direction of what you're supposed to do and hiding the most obsure solutions you can think of. And the conclusion offers a deus ex machina (quite literally) "what did we even accomplish? and how?" kind of resolution. For me, this was a one time, barely enjoyable ride never to be played again and I definitely don't recommend buying it at full price to my fellow adventure lovers out there.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you... the best RPG of forever. And it's not (just) a whole bunch of nostalgia speaking, since I've played the game countless times in the recent years. While the 3D dungeons look superugly for today's standards, that is the only low point of this otherwise excellent game. And the pros hugely outweigh the cons. Be it gameplay (real-time exploration mixed with trun-based combat), story (a perfect mesh of sci-fi and fantasy), or graphics and presentation (outside of the 3D dungeons), this is a true gem and every RPG fan should give it a try.
