Scorn

This is a game-changer

Bad reviews either simply doesn't understand what a survival horror is (or should be) and/or aren't sensitive to the art direction of the game. Scorn is very far to be a walking simulator. Yes it's cinematic, but the interactivity is there and saying otherwise is foolish. After 8 years of development it's clear that things have gone wrong and the team needed to wrap things up "last minute" to finally deliver something. Firstly, the game is WAY TOO SHORT. This truly feels like a demo and in some ways I hope it is, so we can have a "Scorn 2" with a longer story. I was hoping to see more location, more creatures, etc. The team put so much into the world building, this cannot be everything scorn has to offer. [Micro-spoilers from this point on] Secondly, the experience is very inconsistent. The first level is great, then there's a long walk in the desert where there's nothing much to see or do, then level 3 where you can really see all the potential of the game and finally the last level where there's not really any puzzles, the path is pretty much straight forward and the game end when you thought it was only beginning. I can't help but feel disappointed... The potential was there for this to be perfect! And we all know that this was patched last minute, there's feature in the trailers not in the game and you get a grenade launcher but never really got to use it. Then there's these small details that are just contrasting with the rest of the game, like when enemies just "appear" behind you when you get bullets or when you have to shoot grenades through windows to open gates. Those are just very "braindead" games mechanics that we've seen in a lot of other games, which goes against the level of creativity and logic that is shown in the rest of the game. Pros: - Amazing art direction - Great Survival Horror - Completely original world to explore Cons: - Way too short - Inconsistent experience Final words: - Scorn is worth your time but will leave you wanting more.
