With two updates that added a lot of extra features AND tweaked the planetary generation maths, I really feel this game is coming into it's own. I did pre-order it, and I loved it when it came out, but I totally understand why many people were upset. However, I think if the prospect of exploring these planets appeals to you (and you can see tons of examples of the gameplay now) then this game is well worth picking up. I haven't had any issues with performance that detract from my gameplay experience. Basically, the game is about exploring space and alien planets, and if that seems cool to you, you will probably like it. It isn't EVE, and it isn't Elite Dangerous, and it's not trying to be those games. If your favorite part of sandbox games is reaching the next horizon and watching sunsets, then I'm confident you will enjoy doing so in space. I certainly did. :)
