It crashes all the time. If there's an explosion, crash. If you save, crash. The game play is tearible even for the time (Dark Forces One holds up much better). It's great to see what they were able to do in such short time with the 3D engine, but they did not get the game play right at all. I'm still playing it and having fun, but be warned that you will have to put up with the poor game play mechinics. Don't forget to save often!
It takes some getting used to. I'm not usually a horror game player. Doom 3 is quite different from the other Doom games. It's less fast paced shooter and more horror, but it has great FPS mechanics and plays very well. Once you have been playing for a couple of hours, it sort of all comes together.
This game is a charming game. You really get to know the people and they way of life. There are interesting mysteries, and an interesting story. There are also secret supply stashes and, though the game is pretty linear, you have choices about how to carry our your goals. There is a good/bad system. If you put money in the pot for the musician, you get good points, and if you kill a mother nosalis guarding her babies, you get bad ppoints and the ending will change bassed on your good/bad meeter. The game play is very good as well. It's a fun fluid first person shooter. There is a focus on resource scarcity and upgrading makeshift weapons, but you still get the FPS machanics that we have come to expect. If you find it on sale, you can't go wrong. All of the Metro games are worth playing. I have played them all more than once.
This game is amazing! You should know, I'm biased. I have played this game since I was a child. It was a staple in my video game collection, and still is. With this remaster, I am much better able to look around and aim, I can see everything so much better (I have even found new secrets I didn't know about), and it plays much faster. That's just getting started. This remaster has completly changed my experience playing this game! If you have played this game and enjoyed it, this remaster is for you. It really brings the game out of the '90s and into our current day and age. I have played through the game on the "hard" difficulty eight times and plan to keep playing. There is even a console like in Quake. Thank you Nightdive for remastering this game!
