Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut

Quality CRPG

When it came out, I never really cared for Shadowrun the pnp game though I was familiar with FASA styles of rpgs through Star Trek. Later, I stumbled on source material on it's UK future setting and that was just so stupid that the RPG was shelved in favour of other games. This CRPG though employs the setting of Berlin, which had a better development history. And it is a well written, very immersive game in much the same way as the infinity engine games, POE, Tyranny, Wasteland 2&3 all the way to Vampire Bloodlines and at a stretch Dragon Age Orgins were.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

One of the best CRPGs of the 2020s

I was surprised by this. It is a truly refreshing crpg in that it is not some undemanding superhero game with a vague pre-industrial veneer. It is wonderful to find a game where, the makers clearly value historicism and and demonstrate some basic understanding of medieval Europe. What is more, the game focuses far less on combat than the majority of mass-market crpgs. Where it does have combat, it is not the superhero choreographed ballet of US style games. This attempts something far closer to what fighting at that time really was. The CRPG reminds me a lot of the equally more demanding pen and paper RPG scene in the UK back in the 80s. Highly recomended. Negatives? Hmmmm ok, here goes... 1. The makers seriously need to cut down on fetch quests in their CRPGs. That really is noticeable in the game, 2. The "period" portrayal is extremely wooden and comes across as pretending that many aspects of modern society, did not exist in the initial half of the 15th Century. This is an impression but maybe I'm not alone in this. That is a common symptom of dramatisations in many places and not just the Czech Republic and the cost of this is basically "believability". Good idea to take a leaf from BBC or ITV drama. Don't forget, you are not the only person to have studied history and especially those, who appreciate this period-game, will notice things. In Summary.... Aye, it's a grand game. One of the best CRPGs of the 2020s and certainly unique in it's historical novel approach.

Bound By Flame

Will not run on WIndows 11

Seem to have wasted my money on this. Just says the application is unable to start correctly. Maybe GOG will fix it one day but right now, avoid it like the plague

Mars: War Logs

Won't run on Windows 11

Just says the application is unable to start correctly. Waste of money unless GOG fixes it anytime soon

Deus Ex™ GOTY Edition

Good game

It is easy to see, where the sequels such as Deus Ex Human Revolution and Mankind Divided have their origins. Deus Ex is an exellent game and deserves it's classic status. In Retrospect, now that I have played almost all, I have to say that Deus Ex - Invisible War is an utter disaster in comparison. What surprised me however, considering the amount of hate online, was how similar the gameplay of Deus Ex Human Revolution and Deus Ex Mankind Divided was. Expecially Mankind DIvided in fact. In both cases, you can easilly tell that you're playing a Deus Ex game. What I have not understood though, is why people recommend System Shock 2 in reference to Deus Ex because outside of these being First Person Shooter types of games, there is no comparison. Especially considering that System Shock 2 has practically no RPG element. (which is what I look for)

Deus Ex 2: Invisible War

Ok I suppose

I finally got round to finishing the game. Once you've modded the game into shape and offset some of it's more glaring flaws it is a reasonably good game in a way. (From a CRPG perspective) Despite it's flaws, I've found the game far more enjoyable than Bethseba games such as Fallout 3, which lare narrative voids. Some may tear me appart for saying so but I have not gotten past the initial scenes of the original much lauded Deus Ex. I will get round to it eventually but tend to get distracted by other things too. Currently, I still admire sexuels/prequels such as Deus Ex Human Revolution and Deus Ex Mankind Divided more, for all kinds of reasons. Back to Deus Ex Invisible War though.,, You know, from a modding perspective, this game could do with some graphical mods that offset the continuous blue tint, even if little can be done about the lighting/rendering. You see, even in the visible upgrade version, backgrounds such as the Seattle Outook and many other things look dreadful due to a complete lack of contrast. Ok game

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director’s Cut

SUPERB

Superb Generally speaking, I mainly play CRPGs with a very strong story/writing. Weirdly, Deus EX HRDC with it's mix of CRPG elements and stealth shooter sets a standard many very pupular CRPGS cannot possibly reach. I usually loathe First Person Shooters but this game is in a league of it's own. The theatre and dramatisation is top notch and it is a joy to play this game. Cannot recommend it enough.
