Drekirökr - Dusk of the Dragon

No

I own this game over on Steam... Every time I try to play the game, it crashes when I get to the first fight. Overthere, it's still in early access, a game this simple being in early access this long that has at no point worked properly. No, don't waste your money here.

Slay the Princess — The Pristine Cut

My second legit five start on GOG.

It's an extremely good choose your own adventure. One of the best visual novels I've come across. The hype is real, if you like narrative experiences with near endless possibilities, this is a must play

Leftovers KO!

Apparntly I'm being censored.

Oh, you wanted a review? Blame GOG, apparently I used some words they don't like and rather than figure it out, this is what you get for a review from me. You find this useless, tell GOG to stop being such censorious jackpies.

We are the Dwarves

It won't work for me

So... I picked this up because it looks fairly cool and goes on sale regularly, but when I go to play... I turn on my controller but it's not working. I go to options and I see gamepad and click it, it asks if I want to switch to gamepad. I say yes. The pointer goes away, and the gamepad still doesn't work. I kill the game with task manager and try three more times to be sure. Yep, I somehow locked myselfe out of the game by trying to playing with my controller.

Valor of Man

This is a 3.5 rounded up

I've not finished the game, this is more of a first impression. So what you have here is a game that kind of plays out like you are playing a D&D campaign. This plays kind of like Inscryption, or Black Book, or any other number of games in that aspect. You are given a map with paths, the paths lead to different kinds of ambiguous events and fights. At each stop something happens and you either fight or are given choices that can have positive and negative outcomes. Where this is different from most games I see doing that, is this uses a tactical turn based RPG as the connective tissue instead of a deck builder. The four starting characters all play at least somewhat differently and my understanding is there will be 8 more characters. The characters are archetypes such as a warrior, a paladin, a mage and so on (they aren't named that). The twist there is, if you have a party member become exhausted in battle, they gain permanent debuffs for the rest of time or until you reset your progress and start over. I was kind of debating what I think of this game because I wasn't finding too impressive, but not too offensive either. But then I was met with a choice that made me said ok, this game is pretty cool I chose to pay 200 gold (that's a ton of gold at this moment) to get to pick between three artifacts. And right now It is such a tough choice. One of them is useless to me (but could be super powerful under the right conditions) but the two that I'm torn between. I can get one that poisons my enemies at the start of each fight, or one that prevents my guys from even getting those debuffs when they pass out. It's forcing the to leverage making fights easier against hedging my bets to protect myself. To me, that right that made it worth at least a 3.5, and I'm going to round up to a 4 in this case for presenting such a meaningful choice so early. Now don't get too excited. The game is pretty much competent in all departments. Nothing about this is going to blow your mind. But it does have it's own cham and spin to offer on what's becoming a more common formula.

Enter the Chronosphere

This would be a contender 4 GOTY...

I've obviously not finished the game yet, but as an early impression this game is ridiculously cool. I personally love the art style and color pallet, though I realize they are not for everyone. Luckily what you see is what you get, if you look at the screen shots and art and it grabs ya, that's what you are getting. It's a true rouge like in that every action is actually a turn and it always goes your turn, their turn. I personally like that, and here they are throwing in some bullet hell elements that I think really work. You can take your time with each individual action and play it as a very slow stop motion kind of game. But, you can also hole your buttons and do it fast almost like it's in real time because it basically is if you input the commands fast enough. You'll unlock different characters that have different abilities and traits. In that it vaguely reminds me of Azure Dreams where you got to use different monsters with different attacks and stats. Watch a video, if it seems interesting, you'll probably like it. This would be in the running for game of the year for me if I would allow early access that privilege. This is worth the price of admission. In fact, I bought this elsewhere because for some reason GOG kept saying the game was not compatible with my version of windows. But I keep checking on it assuming it was a glitch. Still, got it elsewhere and played it and when the glitch went away, I was happy to get again here too to support the devs. I think this is that cool. It's not for everyone, but the people it is made for, are really going to dig it.

Long Live the Queen

I wishedlisted even though I own it

So, I do in fact own this game on another platform, and where I use the same handle so you could verify that fact if you want to. Wouldn't be hard to think of another platform that has user reviews. Anyway, where is my review from there. I will admit, I reviewed the game several years later when I saw it go on sale and it has a special place in my heart because it was the first or second PC game I ever bought not counting Diablo II or WoW. The game was on sale at that time, but it's cheap even not on sale so... I've sunk many hours into it and have never completed a successful run. Looks like it's going to be on 70% discount for the next week (making it a 3 dollar holler) . It's a management sim where you have to train up a princess in the ways of war, political intrigue, history, magic, music, and more in order to prepare her to take her place on the throne. But, you don't really need to worry about it, because she's never going to make it to her coronation because she's going to die. So many times. So many deaths. Over and over. Death, is the name of the game.

RoadOut

This is more of a first impression

So, I'm going to say I've not spent a ton of time with the game, but I do think I've mostly got the feel for it so I'm going to tell you why I recommend it, and if I do run into something that significantly changes my opinion, I can always edit the review if need be. First, I just saw this within a day or two of it coming out and I got super stoked for it because on the look of it, it reminds me of another game I recently started playing. (Neon Blight, if you want to know) This game is basically nothing like that, but I'm not disappointed even a little. This is kind of a Zelda game, but set in a post apocalyptic cyberpunk future and you are playing a currier, much like the game, Cloudpunk. And much like that game you are dragged into something pretty big. Unlike that game, you are not an insufferable chick and you will do more than just drive around about your problem. The kind of world map, is where you dive your car to get to locations such as dungeons. The driving I think is fine, I dig it, but it is pretty floaty. It reminds me of old school NES racers where the cars were all over the place. But it feels good here. I could be wrong, but I presume the world map is less an open world and more a well disguised system of corridors. Which is fine, and I could be wrong, but that's what it seems so far, and I bet it stays that way. I did run into creatures on my way to the first "dungeon" but I didn't have any upgrades yet so I just had to run. I know you will get to build up your car and add weapons and whatnot. While I do kind of dig the feel of the driving, I've not done it in combat yet. (EDIT: Combat while driving is not good, but it's not a deal breaker for me so far, didn't really change much else) The "dungeons" are where it really takes on that Zelda feel I was not in any way expecting. (it starts you out with melee stuff, but I know you get guns). It's got dead ends, puzzles, and weak points in the walls you can bust through to find secrets. It's all pretty standard, and that's ok. It is doing it's on thing, it not trying to be Zelda, just has a bit of that flavor to it. I just mean don't let that comparison put you off or get you too excited because it's KIND OF like Zelda, it's not even close to a 1 for 1. Where I think the game really shines is in the music and art departments. Now the world map, the dungeons, the character sprite you actually control. They are not amazing. I don't think they are bad, but nothing special at all. However, there are these story bits where it almost has a comic book style, but in pixel art. That stuff is beautiful. That is some very high quality pixel art. So this game covers the gambit between basic pixel art to some pretty breathtaking work in my opinion. How long is the game? I'm not sure. How is the story? I can't really tell you, but I can tell you it's not going to take itself too seriously. At the very least it's going to be somewhat self aware. I say give the game a try. It's only $15, and I think price of admission feels pretty good. I've played a little over a hour and a half so far (I said this is a first impression) and unless it ends in the next 2 or 3 hours, I'm feeling like I'll have gotten my money's worth.

Kamikaze Lassplanes

Above average and solid

EDIT: I just changed "graphic novel" to "visual novel". I mean, they are the same thing, but technically, no they are not... Ok, so lets get this out of the way, I've not finished the game, but I've played enough I feel I can give a fair general assessment. I can't really judge the story as a whole, but here are my thoughts after spending several housrs with it. This is a visual novel first and foremost. So if you are really not into that, it might be a deal breaker. You could just skip it all I suppose, that is an option in the game. The art is pretty fantastic, and the story itself is kind of strange in a cool way, classic "only in Japan" kind of stuff (for the record, I don't know who made this). There is a level of horny to it, but it's reasonably mild so far and I very much doubt it gets too raunchy. This is on the level of something like, Love Hina, maybe a little "worse" than that. So, realitvly safe, but not totally innocent either. It maybe classified as an "adult" game, but if you are buying this to actually wank too... you know what, go ahead. You do that and stick to this kind of thing for as long as you can. Anyway, I have a lot less to say about the shmup portion of the game. It's side scrolling and it's competant. Not the best one I've ever played, but collecting power ups does just feel good and that's one of the main things for such a game. IF you like visual novels and you like side scrolling shoot em ups, I mean, you can do a lot worse in both departments. For what it is, it's pretty good. It is however, not for everyone.

The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood

Depends on your tolerance...

EDIT: Edit was just to clean up typos. I have not finished the game, to be very clear. However, I did play the original demo to it's completion a while back, and have progressed a somewhat decent way past that in the game proper and as far as the game's feel and flavor, I have more than enough to make my judgement call. It's a very mixed bag, I really debated on if this deserves a two or a three, I decided for me, based on my tolerance it's closer to three, but I think for most people, it's going to be closer to a two. Most people that are more like me than the intended audience. The indented audience is, is young women, or just women generally really. That in mind, as a man there is quite a lot to like here still. The pixel art is fantastic. Have I seen better? I mean hard to say, but sure probably. But this is still very nice to look at if you like this kind of graphics and their art direction. I also really dig the music. Though, I do have to say, divorced from the game, on it's own it's not something I find myself wanting to listen to. But within the context of the game, it's great. It adds the perfect ambiance. It sounds good when it's not standing on it's own, and more importantly, it just feels right. Perfect for the setting and the mood. Making the cards is kind of cool. Making decisions when you do a reading is kind of cool. The direction the story is going in is intriguing thus far. And while most of the characters I can take em' or leave em', Abramar, is a real treat. I love this behemoth. The tolerance I was speaking of, is to lefty progressive nonsense and yea girl power we rock whoooo. If you have little to no tolerance to that kind of thing, move along there isn't much for you here. If like me, you don't appreciate it per se, but can tolerate some amount of it, then maybe see if you can still find the demo or a video perhaps. The worst part to me is how everybody just can't stop complementing everybody. Much of the dialogue is like, your the best. No you are. Naw, it's you. Oh stop
