Agree with Jopalnu totally, this game is while clearly dated graphics wise was and still is a superb game and this game defiantly stands out til this day still, they defiantly don't make games with this sense of humour these days if at all. Challenging well for me at some parts which was good and funny story line made me laugh a fair bit, also rated below off my own personal experience and to be a somewhat guide for people like me. FUN - 8/10 STORY - 9/10 CUSTOMISATION OF CHARACTER - 4/10 - only got 4 as you could change load out via ingame shops on mission maps CONTROLS - 10/10 IN GAME SOUNDS - 8/10 MUSIC - 4/10 - gets annoying GAME VOICING FOR CHARACTERS - 10/10 GRAPHICS AND RESOLUTION - 5/10 MAP & OBJECTIVES - 2/10 - map terrible (you wont use it) 2 only due to objectives easy to check SAVING - 0/10 as check point based - i dont like check points hence 0 CHARACTER BONDING - 10/10 - for me I suprisingly cared about my and npc characters MY OPINION TO PLAY OR NOT - DEFIANTLY worth your time and effort and if you are sitting on the bench still then wait til on sale but I enjoyed playing it
loved first one mainly fond memories of SNES version but I just can't recommend this one to anybody, no idea what the hell they were going for but space...... I mean come on really this is cannon fodder but have no issues with developers especially in the 90's trying to do things but space and cannon fodder is just ridiculous and to me or for me that was the point I uninstalled the game, don't bother but get it if its cheap and you want to see how it is, just don't expect cannon fodder feeling if that makes sense.
Loved this game on the SNES and on the pc it isn't as good, to me graphics appeared worse especially in jungle areas than the SNES version I remember, it is a lot harder on pc due to speed of movement and AI has much more awareness of your location with their rockets so expect to loose nearly all your squad and recruits at stages 5 onwards but stage 8 I gave up on, for me I felt like I was being punished for playing the game and felt the AI was close to cheating against me the player. Overall with saying the above there is a fun game to be had here that no doubt other people will be able to handle the difficulty better than I have and if so I salute you ;)
In order to run this game in windows 10 64 bit no doubt 32 bit also, I have 64 bit, you have to make this game compatible for windows 7 as per gogs specs on this game it doesn't mention windows 10 as I had same issue as HunterZ until I did the above step than it ran okay, only crashed every now and again but defiantly was playable. Graphics ARE TERRIBLE, defiantly have aged extremely poorly but your not playing a 1998 game for graphics so don't judge game on that, the story line was SUPERB and the playability was rock solid and big difficulty jumps being an older game if you go up difficulties. This game is a huge must to have in your library and if the above advice on how to get it working doesn't work than see if you can get a refund but everyone should be making sure specs are checked before making a review about game not working, HunterZ if you read this please try the above step if you haven't already as it is worth the play through for story and action.
I say hidden gem for action only as everything else is terrible, push through all the roughness especially the swearing which I don't mind but geesh when every second word is MFkr LOL gets tiredsome real quick, graphics is and always was outdated and story line is there but well you know the 90's gaming didn't make too much sense just do forget story so to say was mentallity back then. WITH SAYING THAT, the action as in the shooting action WAS EPIC FUN and is defiantly worth pushing through the rest of the pain of a poorly executed game but that gun fighting was for me SURPRISING and I am glad I pushed on past the pain to get to the jelly goodness of toasting all those Gangsta's hehehehe and I was suprisingly satisified with this and the ending too.
I can not recommend this game to anyone at all just based on playability as it is seriously terrible and I honestly really wanted this game to work for me as I loved the first I.G.I but this doesn't even come close to anything that had, this game is NO FUN at all, I just couldn't push on after second mission the first mission was painful as it was, but I tried to give it an honest go and I just felt so non fulfilled, great idea poorly executed and you go away with a real sense of a waste of time.
Tried this game and was a game I wanted to try since it came out, I love old games but this is just terrible, STAY away from this classic nightmare. It is just terrible so terrible I not wasting any more words on it.
I review this game on the experience I had while playing this game, I am in no way a professional gamer but rather just like the rest of the gaming community a gamer who plays for fun/challenge/entertainment and just want a good well developed game to be lost in for the time we can play games. I am not being paid to review this game and do it to hopefully help people like me who are thinking of buying the game but want to understand what they may experience before making the purchase. As you do not get much characters to input into a review I rated below out of 10 to give somewhat of a short guide which I intended to have my reasons for such score but again limit to 2000 characters is restrictive and surprising as I can't fully provide my reasons as to why I rate it the way I did so use it as a guide only and is from my own experience of playing game. FUN - 5/10 - only saved by powers and story line otherwise 0 STORY - 10/10 - very well done CUSTOMISATION OF CHARACTER - 0/10 - as doesn't exist CONTROLS - 6/10 - good but some flaws but can work with it IN GAME SOUNDS - 2/10 - just terrible MUSIC - 7/10 - not higher as music was so loud when cut scenes were on GAME VOICING FOR CHARACTERS - 5/10 - average GRAPHICS AND RESOLUTION - 0/10 - extremely terrible even for a 2005 game, cut scenes were higher quality video as per that time frame trend MAP & OBJECTIVES - 0/10 - no map and no short cut key for objectives SPECIAL POWERS - 10/10 - major fun but came too late in game for me SAVING - 0/10 - no saving function, old school checkpoints, some too close, some too far away from each other CHARACTER BONDING - 0/10 - non existent MY OPINION TO PLAY OR NOT - play for story & powers but don't expect much else
I have played the sudden strike series way back but never played this game or series and still can not believe how amazing this game is for a 2003 game I believe it was WAY ahead of its time and still looks amazing even today 13 years later and plays truly great. Down side I found is for me anyway on my windows 10 it tends to crash at random times so save frequently is my advice, you will know when it does as the sound is first thing that goes then it locks up, simply fixed by ctrl-alt-del and killing exe in task manager but don't save your game when it does as it kills the save game. HOWEVER even with the only flaw of the game being the above I still couldn't stop playing it, I just sucked it up and kept on playing as it's way too good of a game to have the above put me off and be realistic its a 2003 games so the fact gog have even got it to run is in my opinion amazing so you just accept it this can happen with very old games. To the game play well the missions are done in scenarios so to say so you can rush through each scenarios main mission as I did but its very hard or you can do the side missions to gain access to better troops like stronger tanks or heavy guns/artillery that make the main mission a little bit easier to deal with so defiantly worth doing. The side missions also give you experience to gain higher ranks so I found when you level up depending on which country you are you will go from say like 3 tanks to 6 tanks which is amazing or same but for artillery, you can only max up your player profile to what i seen lvl3 lets say but i never noticed any benefit of the 3rd level up so was bit disappointed. Now about the difficulty, Easy is amazingly fun but don't knock it til you try as rolling your tanks through a town can still get you killed believe it or not, you will need to still use tactics to some degree. Normal is best to play this on if you want to get all the AI'S guns and use them against the AI which is so much fun to do e.g. you can end up with like 10-12 artillery guns going which is amazingly fun. Hard for me anyways was okay but real planning needed and scouting strongly advised although main mission real challenge. Insane level is hard with no saves and not worth it given the crashes issue above, for me hard felt to unrealistic but for anyone wanting super hard challenge then jump to that level immediately but be warned this game is hard to begin with or is what I found. The supply trucks work so good, better then i thought it would and love how weather affects can stop you calling on your airforce and if you call a plane and weather degrades they go back to base but cool down time only refreshes to about 3 quarter of way so isn't too bad but yet another well done commander decision/timing from the player needed which is great. I am nearly finished this game and defiantly buying from gog blitzkrieg 2 anthology, this game is defiantly worth the buy and time.
