Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Great epic-level type RPG gameplay

I'm a sucker for RPGs, but honestly couldn't really get into things like BG3 because I have a mental illness where I only like playing RPGs if I have a chance to do some truly busted things at the end. While this only lets you go to level 20, the Mythic Path system absolutely scratches that itch. I could do without the HoMM3 battles, but they're pretty inoffensive. If you like RPG mechanics like Hordes of the Underdark, Mask of the Betrayer, or Throne of Bhaal, you'll enjoy the mechanics of this one greatly. Can't speak to story, I haven't finished it yet, but let's be real, nothing will ever beat Mask of the Betrayer story-wise.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales

Great story, good premise, way too easy

I played the Gwent beta for quite a while, and I've been playing new Gwent since it release (and am not nearly as hyper-critical of it as many seem to be; they said lots would change, and lots did change, but the strategic difference from other online card games is still there, but this isn't a Gwnet review, so...), so I'd like to imagine I'm reasonably good at Gwent. One of the biggest draws of Gwent (the standalone game, not the Witcher 3 mini-game, I never played that) is how strategic it all is. There is significantly less RNG in Gwent than in Hearthstone, which is the only other major online card game I've played, and it's the reason I like Gwent better. I say all this because I was really hoping for Thronebreaker to be...well, harder. I love the story, I don't think CDPR can even write a bad story, and the base building/resource management mechanics are pretty good, too. But the actual matches? I started on the highest difficulty available (if a harder one unlocks after beating the game, I don't know because I lost motivation by the last map), and by the end of the second map, I was literally making up restrictions for myself in order to try and spice up the gameplay. I've consistently won every round I've played in this game with 0 mulligans and using random golds and trinkets each time. I do like this game, enough to put almost 50 hours into it, and I intend to replay it again to pick other story options. But man...if you're not one to be interested in characters and plot twists and are just looking for a challenging PvE card game experience, you might want to pass this one up. Otherwise, I can give it a hearty recommendation, especially if you want some free gold cards in the standalone Gwent game.
