DOOM (2016)

Unplayable...

I guess I'm going to be the outlier here, I find this game to be utterly unplayable. There's no ability to save your game manually, meaning if you die, you're back to the last "checkpoint" it randomly saved at. You can only save one time -- my game file showed "corrupted" after 3 days of play, leaving me with only an option to start the game over. Play itself is awful -- lots of big, random jumps that are simply not obvious (in one case, I had to fall down a hole, run across a narrow ledge, and then jump a huge chasm to continue). Some of the secret areas just about trap you, with having to parkour over a bunch of random edges to go on. Give me the OG Doom.

Forgotten Realms: The Archives - Collection One

Blast from the Past

The Eye of the Beholder series was my introduction to the RPG world, and it was fun getting back into it. Oddly, I started with EOB3 and wound up playing the previous games much later. But, this time, I started my way through it. Without the nostalgia hitting me, I forgot how utterly awful and a let down EOB3 was -- endless monotonous pathways, often devoid of monsters (particularly since you've wandered down it 5949 times) all while slogging around looking for a stupid key somewhere. :) The previous two installments, EOB1 and EOB2, are a lot more fun, but lack some of the features that made EOB3 easier to play (such as all attack). They're what you really want -- and by the time you get to EOB3, with the "boss" that takes two slashes of the space button to kill -- you'll be ready to replay them. The dosbox interface could use some work. Bumping the windows key will crash your game, and having to go through and do multiple inputs again and again and again is a bit tedious.
