Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition

Good tactical RPG, annoying sounds

Visuals 4/5: The graphics are not amazing, but they are above average, certainly for a small studio. There are some attempts at video cutscenes in the form of hand drawn quasi-stop-motion animations which are not particularly appealing. Sound 3/5: The music is serviceable at best. It’s mostly just there. I would not listen to this game's soundtrack independently, unlike many other games. The sound effects are good. The voice acting for the story characters - which there is an abundance of, as is expected in such a game - is done very well. However, as an ambiance NPCs repeatedly shout the same voicelines over and over on a short loop at the regular speaking volume, even during conversations with other characters, which is pretty distracting and annoying. Gameplay 4/5: The game is pretty fun and the combat system is good for the most part. However, there isn’t much sense of progression as the characters gain levels, since specific skills don’t become more powerful. Many higher level spells are either underwhelming, unusable as they might hurt your other party members, or just resisted by the higher level enemies. There are some other quality of life improvements that the gameplay could have benefited from, mostly to make playing as a party smoother. On a more technical side, note that it is relatively easy to reach the GOG cloud save limit of 200 MBs with this game, since the save files are more than 7 MBs. I reached the limit by having 10 auto-save slots, 10 quick-save slots, and a few manual saves at key moments (+ saves from other runs). Story 4/5: The plot of the game is relatively well-written and it kept my interest for the most part. Near the end of the game it goes too heavily into religion and the soap-opera side of mythology for my liking. In general, I enjoyed exploring the conversation paths of the various characters and learning the lore of the world.

Seven: Enhanced Edition

Crashes

The game always crashes after about 1 minute. This has been a known issue for at least a couple of years, but the developers haven't fixed it yet. Instead they are currently deliberating where to publish the game next.
