Greatest Elder Scrolls Game
Best story and lore, it all pulls you in and engulfs you. The alien atmosphere and strange customs of the natives will puzzle you. When you take your first steps and gain a few levels it will be a struggle. Then as you struggle you find victories and win small battles. You come to find that you are the Nerevarine, a messianic figure from the outlands, born under a certain sign and destined to save this strange land. The Ashlanders are the ones you must gain trust from but are the hardest among the Dumner to understand. In time your journey becomes clearer. Soon you understand that Dagoth Ur, leader of the Sixth House, must be confronted...
I'd say that the story and lore are by far the greatest I've ever encountered. It's kind of like Dune if you like that book/movie(s). The gameplay is like a tabletop game in the sense that you must level your skills. Specifically it's based on/inspired by RuneQuest. And I love it. There is some minor min-maxing that is pretty nice to do if you have not played before, but do not stress about perfect leveling. Furthermore, the game is a breeze to mod, especially if you use OpenMW. It's the third Elder Scrolls game I played in earnest, first being Oblivion, then Skyrim, then Morrowind. I remember playing around in Seyda Neen as a kid on the Xbox but I had no idea what I was doing. After getting tired of Skyrim I tried this, hearing from family that it was the best RPG, and I have to agree. It blows Skyrim and Oblivion out of the water.
Yes, you have to read. Yes, you have to read your journal. But you will grow to like it, even appreciate it. It doesn't hold your hand and after 20 levels you will thank Morrowind for it ;)
