The original Baldur's Gate is one of the greatest computer-based RPGs ever released. The scale and sweep of the plot is epic, revealed gradually over the vast play area through many hours of play. The quality of the writing and the characterisation is spot-on, and the AD&D ruleset has rarely been so well implemented, leading to some challenging battles, hard decisions and a lot of fun. Massively immersive and one of the highest benchmarks for the genre.
