Something to unpack here, it's just not very good. This game is made very well but it is more of an experience. I saw this was being given away for free on GOG I think the time when Sundered was able to be pre-ordered. I thought it may be kind of a stripped back experience of Sundered but I was wrong. Other than the Artstyle of both games they are very different. It isn't a very hard game you may only die by the bosses maybe because of something unexpecting to happen but thats it. Combat is fine but very bare bones. You only have a fast attack and a strong attack with a few different powers given to you by the gods. Thats it. I like the artstyle but that has to be it. Even if you really want this game I implore you to not get it at full price. Maybe wait for a sale or have a friend give it to you or play it with someone that already has it if that is possible. Honestly after about 3 hours I kinda capped out on it because it became a slog to get through. You may get something out of it but I honestly couldn't.
This game doesnt describe itself as one but it is a good game to play when you just wanna relax and not scream your head off. You just pick up the Controller and you dig in a never ending mine (Not sure if it is neverending so I could be wrong about that but it seems like it may be.) Yeah you will die in this game but I never got frustrated in it, I just laughed and I got right back into that mine. Pick this game up now its worth full price on here. I know it also has a PS Vita port and this is a perfect game for that Platforme becasue it is a game I would want to play on the go.
Im gonna go ahead and reccomend buying this right now, it is great. So you know...start downloading it when you are done reading this review (and dont feel bad if you stop in the middle of reading this to play it, I understand). Don't let the appearance fool you, this is an amazing and challenging Platformer that in my opinion is better than other games like it like Super Meat Boy (in my opinion). It is also a fair challenge. When you hit a spike or any other opsticle you are taken right back to your previous checkpoint for what only feels like a second. It is good when games do this after you fail because you can get right back into the action because it doesn't get frustrating (at least to me anyway). I like a game called Bloodborne that is a challenging Hack and Slash RPG and it is really fun but when you die you are usually sent really far back and you have to wait and wait for the game to load again and then you crawl your way back to where you were. But with this game it is Quick and therefor it isn't much of a problem. Now I will admit their is one part I have found where a more checkpoints wouldn't hurt, but that is only one part so far, the rest is pretty fair. Pick this one up, it is worth it even while not on sale.
Doom 3 is different from the previous two titles by a country mile, but that is not a bad thing. Doom 3 takes a different approach to what was established formula and does its own thing by feeling like a survival horror game. Ammo is pretty scarce in this game and you are more than likely always scavenging for more ammo, armor, and health kits on Mars City. In some areas where you leave the city and go into the surface of Mars you notice you have a limited air supply but this isn't as much of a nuisance as you would think it would be because these sections are over quickly or their are multiple air canisters around the area. These changes are positive and work well for the most part. The only problems I have with this game is the constant jump scares that happen almost every few minutes. What I mean by this is that sometimes Enemies will usually pop out of closed off closets and rooms and will immediately take off a good few points of your health. Their are times when you can see some of these coming from a mile away but other times you can't see them coming. Now this wouldn't be a problem if they didn't happen all of the time. The ones that you can see I have no problem with like if you are about to walk in a door to the next area and a few Marines pop out to take a few shots that isn't a problem. The ones that are annoying are when Imps come out of places that you wouldn't even think to look for enemies or walls that flip open that you didn't even notice were doors. That is really the only problem I have with this game and if you are ok with this, then try this game out. I do not know how Doom fans felt about this game when it came out. Don't know if they loved it or hated it but I have to say that I like this game. Not one of my favorite games ever but is a good game to fall back into every not and again.
I purchased this game a month after it came to GOG.com. While I wanted to buy all of the games in a bundle for only five dollars, I didn't have the money then. During the 2017 summer sale I noticed it and the other games were on sale so while I was browsing through my wishlist I thought I would pick up this game. I had fond memories playing this game in an old arcade before it was shut down and it makes me glad to say this game is worth the price tag even at full (But if five dollars is too steep it shouldn't be long before it is back on sale and the current summer sale will probably keep going on for a long while. Now most of the reviews I have seen on this game on this website has pointed out a lag and frame rate issue. While this problem has shown up on my copy it isn't as bad as people say it is. While it may lag in a few areas (I didn't count the exact number) it isn't as bad as people say it is. It probably lags for like one or two seconds. Anyway I recomend this game to anyone that is a fan of the Contra games or likes run and gun shooter arcade games. (In my opinion Metal Slug is better than Contra but that is just an opinion not fact)
