DOOM 3

2.5/5 THE TRANSITION TO 3D WAS HARSH

I don't really want to play RoE or the lost mission because I'm pissed enough as it is - The graphics have aged poorly, characters look like clay models - Little to no music - The pace is horrendous - It tries too hard to be a horror game - Frequent flickering lights made me nauseous - All the weapons are underwhelming with piss poor sound effects, but it hurts the most to see how bad the shotgun is, and there is no supershotgun - weapon reload renders the shotgun even more useless - No dedicated button to throw grenades, making them less useful than they should - too many narrow corridors prevent you from circle strafing - there's a stamina bar, preventing you from running indefinetively, and there's no "toggle run" key - settings are, again, piss poor, there are no subtitles or voice volume option so you have find a nice and quiet place to listen to the voice recordings that may contain valuable information - minimun gore, enemies disappear in a cloud of smoke upon dying - when you take damage your screen shakes like crazy making you lose your target, and there's no option to disable that effect, real fun when you are being ganked by more than 2 enemies - talking about ganking, too many enemies like to jump at you, specially when you open doors - enemies correct their direction midjump/attack, making it even harder to dodge out of the way - revenants shoot homing missiles - fall damage + The third act picks up the pace, pouring enemies at you instead of trying to scare you with cheap jumpscares, and since you have plenty ammo you'll be more than happy with this turn of events + thank the heavens they got rid of that mechanic that forced you to choose between shooting or being able to see anything + ammo capacity is decent and ammo pickups are plentiful, so using the rocket launcher is a viable strategy (some say the game is too easy with so much ammo laying around, but if I have to drag myself through this game I'll gladly take the extra ammo)

Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition

I'm over micromanagement

Back in the day I enjoyed the D&D RPGs, but with time micromanaging every aspect of a party of 4 has lost its appeal, I tried going with the lone wolf talent because I thought I could do a neverwinter kind of run with only me and my pal complementing each other (more skills mean a stronger characters, right?) weell, not exactly, there are so many skills that you have to spread yourself thin, I found myself struggling in every battle, barely making it out alive, and for the boss battles I always found some way to turn the scales in my favor using the enviroment, but I gave up after encountering Baraxxus (I think that's his name), the guy is incredibly powerful, he strikes first and takes 75% of my health in the first turn, and to make things worse he summons 3 of the bosses you previously fought to aid him. I could start a new game, but I cannot be bothered to spend another 20 hours dragging myself though this slow paced piece of frustration just to get pulverized again

Divinity 2: Developer's Cut

Expected disappointment

I'm not a fan of the series, the first 2 games are hideous, but I decided to give this one a chance since is third person and I kind of hate it, but it still has some good things to it - The graphics are beautiful, with a modern PC you can jack it up to the extreme without a hinch - The music is nice - The voice acting is quite good, paired with some good jokes and references - I like how agile the character is, you can dodge a lot of attacks, even arrows and magic - The world is apparently massive, I couldn't even retake the tower that, if the game is to be believed, works as a hub for an even bigger world - Crafting is a thing, from potions to enchantments, which is good I guess That said: - it takes too long to have accesss to your base, with a game that emphasizes crafting hoarding quickly becomes one of my priorities, except that I can't hoard because I have an inventory limit without the posibility to stash excess gear or crafting materials for later use, I assume the game at some point would let me, but after 10 hours is just taking too long - Enemies hit like trucks, specially if you are not focused on melee, is not much of a problem since you can dodge most attacks and dance your enemies to death IF you have the space to do so, and that's a big if because half the time you'll be forced to fight in close quarters, and that sucks - The high mobility also loses it's charm once you realize you cannot shoot while jumping - as enemies get harder they start using hitskin magic which hurts, a lot, plus these attacks stop you from moving ever so briefly, but long enough to be hit by a second attack, snowballing to you being made into a pulp in seconds - Except for scripted encounters enemies don't drop loot or gold so all your gold must be made through questing/selling things you find in containers, for a game that is trying to be a looter this is bad At the end the game is a mixed bag of half baked ideas (except for the voice acting) that I cannot truly enjoy

Dishonored 2

was enjoying myself until I upgraded DV

I like some of the changes they made, specially how enemies are more pereceptive making the stealth more challenging. That said, I got heartbroken, you see, I love loot, but I have poor eyesight which means in a rich and detailed enviroment I can't find loot for my life, D1 was great because once I cleared out enemies I went through every nook looking for the loot with the help of dark vision, but they nerfed it so badly for this game that now I can't find shit, I played for several hours waiting with glee anticipation that moment when I could finally upgrade dark vision to find all that sweet loot, and what do I get?, nothing, there's no high contrast for the loot which means dark vision is useless to me and now I can't enjoy the game, I don't mind at all how they nerfed it for enemies, but for the loot... nuh uh, that's too much, at least they could have added an option to highlith loot without the need of powers like in the new deus ex or the old thief (well, not so much for thief, but is an old game with a lot less detail so the loot was easily identifiable against the background) soo yeah, unless I find a way to fix dark vision or loot highlights I'm not touching this one ever again

Disco Elysium - The Final Cut

A beautiful rabbit hole

This game has some of the best character interactions I have seen, as soon as you start you know something has fone terribly wrong and you either double down in the self destructive spiral or try to put your shit together, of course I tried to be a "good boy" and pulled myself together and still some of the interactions keep that crazy flavor, sometoimes you make crazy remarks and everyone seems to roll with it, some of the sidequests are just crazy with huge chunks of lore and backstory related to them. But do not believe for a second the main plot is bad, that detective investigation had me running theories in my head like a mad man, every so often I was jumping from one suspect to the other, trying to put together the pieces, and I'm talking about myself, not the game character I also decided to not retrieve my gun and let me tell you, I feel compelled to replay the game and do so because this game is that interesting, it keeps the illusion of choice pretty well The stat progression is a big deal, every point counts so you'll be changing your outfit a lot to try and make up for your weaknesses, no piece of gear is useless If I have to say something negative about the game is that after 20 hours the walls of text start chipping at your patienece, and every bit is important if you want to understand the world and your character Other than that I feel like is one of the best games I have played, the story is great, the art style is beautiful, the music is fitting and the sound effects are immersive I will definetively revisit it in the future and I will recommend it to every person, animal and plant I encounter going forward

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

I like being a ninja cop, but...

If you are familiar with DE Human revolution you already know what there is to know about mankind divided, well, except the endinfg of this one is more open (aka lots of cliffhangers) for a sequel that probably will never come, at least I hope so, aaand here's where I start ranting so you are welcome to stop reading and go play the game, it's pretty good despite it's flaws, be careful tho, tyhis game is a black hole of resources and it won't be happy with some, it wants all of them, so either it runs smoothly or it crashes like Icarus (we should call it the new Crysis) Rant time: before you start chatising me let me explain myself, I love the original Deus Ex, and as a fan I find the aesthetic choices of this prequels are horrible, how comes these people use all kind of wacky futuristic clotehs while in the future (the original game) people dress up with more "normal" clothes? I blame Squeenix for that Also, why there are so many augs around?, with that many people willing to get cybernetic implants you'd think society is past beyond the controversy of the practice, and... No, no, I better stop, I like the game, I just wish it wouldn't have the Deus Ex name associated to it, you already tried that shit Eidos, it was called invisible war and it was awful (from a storytelling stand point)

DARQ: Complete Edition

Stay away from me nana!! (3.5/5)

Alright, I'm a complete oaf so I'm not really sure what is the plot (probably just a fever nightmare) in this vey very short title (finished the main game in 2 hours). With that out of the way let me tell you why I liked it: - It's a puzzle game with a tint of horror sprinkled over it, that's nice - The puzzles are not hard, but they are creative, some taking into account the 3D space, that timed puzzle was simple, but tense, I loved it except for the loud fail scene Well, there's not much else to say, I didn't encounter any glitch or bug and it controls well with the keyboard, I only wish it would be a bit longer, but hold on!! there's a dlc, and it's free, so I'm off to check it out

Broken Sword 2: Remastered (2010)

Bruteforcing is not fun

This one has a lot more of moon logic than the first one, it's really tiresome trying to solve a puzzle where you can see the solution, but the character just prevents you from getting there until you have completed a series of unnecesary steps that left you trying every object on every surface just to see what sticks to the wall, the only reason for me to keep going is to see the end of the story

Costume Quest

I want a sequel!!

The good - Halloween themed (can't go wrong with halloween) - cute cartoonish art style - the music fits nicely - The combat is simple and somewhat challenging: normal attacks and defense are based on QTES which forces you to pay attention (enemies hit hard and scale up to your level, fiortunately you get full health after every battle and if you are defeated you are not punished in any way - The game is short but very enjoyable, and the expansion adds a cliffhanger - The writing is simple, but effective, serves well to the child firendly nature of the game The not so good - more character variety was needed, it was hilarious to see how the dad looks just like the mom with a fake beard, it also happens with the main antagonist and another character (idk if this is one of those situations of "the world looked through the children eyes" - The QTES in Keybopard are rough, they only use 4 keys (shift, q, e, space) but I'm really shortsighted and so many times mixed up the shift and space prompts - It gets repetitive, I had no problems with it since I was really enjoying myself with the game, but it has to be mentioned - in combat most of the costumes are no better than your three first costumes (in the DLC the costumes you get are more useful in the final fight) - The cliffhanger at the end of the expansion Overall the game is good, enjoyable and fun, it has that flavor of kids going on an epic little adventure while grown ups are oblivious to the impending doom, the mechanics get repetitive over time, but if you like halloween and costumes this game is a must, I'll just sit here, waiting for a sequel that may never come

Broken Sword: Director's Cut

4.5/5 Still quite good

I never played the original, but I knew it for the infamous goat puzzle, and after all these years I finally got to it and enjoyed it a lot, it certainly shows it's age, but nothing to keep me from recommending it to fans of the genre, the story was good (for videogame standards), the voice acting was a little rough (sometimes it sounds like really old audio) And the puzles have that balanvce of not being too hard or too easy ( I guess they tweaked them for the director's cut), I had to brute force my way on a few, but fortunatekly never encountered a "fail state"
