Avoid the first Heroes of Might and Magic game. This sequel is the first game but better in every way. The charming music and artstyle make it a joy to play. The campaign of the Succession Wars is quite fun and full of camp storytelling. This game is like a fairy tale come to life (in gaming form). I also like the idea they had of selective units getting upgrades instead of all in the later entries of the series. The game also boasts 6 factions which all have their own theme and flavour. Truly addictive in the 'just one more turn' style of game. Empires to build, battles to win, resources, spells and artifacts to aquire, there's tons to do. I'll often in these games so enjoy exploring and collecting that I'll have change tactic to prevent the computer players from getting too powerful! Often on sale and worth playing for any fantasy or strategy fan.
One of the most memorable, unique and important games that has come out in the past few years. There are definitely flaws with the way it structures puzzles and combat so my high rating is not based on that. Instead the story and presentation and the way it ties in history, mythology and psychosis to create an experience that really stays with you long after you've played it. If you do play this, you MUST play with headphones. I'll be quite interested to see how the sequel turns out.
As the title suggests, having played Bioware's Dragon Age Origins first, it is really interesting to see all the ideas and seeds planted in this game that were later expanded on in Bioware's later games. Being a Jedi is fun and story and characters definitely have the charm of a classic Star Wars story. Even as someone who enjoys classic CRPGs I found the game a bit rough around the edges and a bit tricky to get into. Once it gets going however there is fun to be had. My lower ranking has more to deal with the fact that others in the genre I've simply loved and enjoyed more. I'm glad I've played this classic of gaming history and is definitely worth checking out.
