● Checkpoint Award 2025 in the Advocate of Accessibility and Preservation category ●

November 19th, 2025 – We’re excited to share that GOG has received the Checkpoint Award 2025 in the Advocate of Accessibility and Preservation category. It’s a huge honor for us, and a recognition of what we’ve been working towards for years: keeping classic games alive, DRM-free, and fully playable on modern systems so they can be enjoyed not just today, but for generations to come.

The award, presented at the Checkpoint Festival in Rome, was accepted on behalf of GOG by Bartosz Kwietniewski, Head of Business Development.

Game preservation has been part of GOG’s DNA, since day one. Last year we launched the GOG Preservation Program, which already includes around 250 titles, and in January we joined EFGAMP, opening up collaboration with cultural institutions and archives. We’re incredibly proud that these long-term efforts have been recognised by the Checkpoint Awards.

The Checkpoint Awards celebrate individuals and organizations whose work advances the cultural, artistic, and social understanding of video games. This year, two members of the European Federation of Game Archives, Museums and Preservation Projects (EFGAMP) were among the winners: GOG, and the Embracer Games Archive, whose Natalia Kovalainen received the Women in Games Special Award – Guardian of Gaming Memory.

Other laureates included Nick Poole (UKIE), Athena Maria Enderstein (Keywords Studios), Tracy Gardner (Flip Computing), Benjamin Rostalski (gamescom awards), and Roberto Genovesi (RAI Kids), reflecting the diverse cultural and creative dimensions of the games industry.

Marie-Claire Isaaman, CEO of Women in Games and Co-Director of Checkpoint Festival, underlined the spirit of the awards, noting that they honor vision, courage, and cultural responsibility in treating games as a living art form and vessel of collective memory.

Our goal has always been the same: make games live forever. Through the GOG Preservation Program, our work with archives and cultural institutions, and all the technical tinkering that keeps classic PC titles legally available and actually playable, we’ll keep doing what we do best – making sure the games we love don’t disappear.
