Starcom: Unknown Space

Hits a lot of high notes. Lots of combat to sate the bloodlust. Lots of atmosphere. Almost no repeats of flavor text, always something new just around the corner. Finally a game that scratches the starcon 2 itch!

I bought Starcom: Nexus which I found to be enjoyable. Further, I bought Unknown Space while it was still in Early Development. I continue to learn and find new things I missed in previous playthroughs. The game is balanced, you don't always win, you can die often, but still be willing to jump back in right away. There are some long lulls. So, I decided to explore the entire map (still working on that task). There are systems/planets that seem to pop up in explored space only because the plot line says they should be there now. Ship crafting is much better than Nexus. With better designs, easy adaptability, I 'feel' like this is a real ship and it's mine! I look forward to continued improvements but it's already a solid game and worthy of your investment. Don't miss out.

Easy to learn, easy to get lost in, not too deep. Just what I'm in the mood for right now

WARNING: This game is addictive! Design your starship, train your officers, and set out with your crew into the black! Explore distant systems, make contact with bizarre alien races, send an away team to investigate the planet surface, and forge alliances. You will need them, for your enemies could be waiting in ambush at your next jump. Controls for navigation, combat, exploration, diplomacy, and everything else is simplified and streamlined for quick & fun action. Combat can be handled with dual stick controls a la Smash TV or keyboard & mouse. Your ship's performance and handling is dependant on your design decisions. There's no penalty for tweaking your build as often as you please to try out different play styles. Follow the main storyline with its RPG-like quests, or blaze your own trail through the stars. There is depth to the narrative, and dialog with your crew and Starcom Command is well written. I very much enjoyed the scifi-flavored discussions of physics, engineering, linguistics, etc. Highly recommeded for fans of Star Control, FTL, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and the like.

A great game that is the right mix of crunchy and cozy, that lets you explore spcae, meet new races, discover mysteries, and sometime blow stuff up really good. Story has been paced pretty well, and allows plenty of time to "do your own thing". No complaints at all on my part.
