Silent Hill 4: The Room

Bought this classic and its been flawless and saved me buying a console to play it. Thanks

While not my favorite SH (SH1) nor the best SH (SH2) I think this one does happen to be the scariest one. With the monster designs, the very bizarre level designs, and unnerving music all combined the game creates one of the creepiest atmospheres in gaming. This version on GOG is probably the best version to play too.

SH4 The Room was overall a very good horror game. The story is excellent, really creepy, especially the second half of the game, and I really like how the story slowly opens up. The atmosphere is pretty good, also greatly contributes to the horror atmosphere. The combat is... OK. I really dislike the mosquitos and the dogs on Hard difficulty levels, because they ''fly'' all over the place and Henry is just too slow. The ''escort'' mission can be a drag but since it contributes to the story and to the development of Henry as a character, I think it is not as bad as it seems. Henry as a main character is good, albeit not as engaging or interesting, at least not as Harry, James or Heather, However, if you want to find out a little bit about Henry's bacoground, you can do that by checking the items, and surroundings each time you finish a ''world.'' Overall I'm giving SH4 8/10.

The final game from Team Silent before disbanding. While rough around the edges, it's still worth playing for the story and if you know what you're doing. You can tell this game was ahead of it's time and could've been more had it not been rushed and worked on at the same time as Silent Hill 3. If it was given time, the game could've been executed correctly! It can still be tedious and challenging during the 2nd half of the game, but if you play right and protect your NPC that follows you before the ending, you'll be golden. Worth noting that even if you "heal" them with the candle just before the end, it doesn't do anything if a lot of damage is taken and accumulated to that NPC if that 2nd half doesn't go well, regardless if you "heal" them 100% right before that NPC seperates from you :(
