A Worthy successor to Commandos/SRTS

A long time I sat in front of my PC and thought "Why cant we have games like Commandos again?". These guys pretty much thought the same and made their own Japanese themed Commandos, and its really good. The Graphics are good, the artstyle is also nice, the controls are smooth and easy to understand and you also have the option to rebind them if you wish. It also features DUAL AUDIO (!) and even if only heard the japanese voice over, its also done well. The OST is also super solid, that theme when ur spotted or just the usual sneaking music is really catchy and fits the mood. The demo is straightforward, with a tutorial level which ramps up a bit later on and a second level which serves as kind of a challange. I was super confused when I read "Demo ends in 10 min" but as I saw the devs comment on the steam forums, they put it in as a Challange to see how far you can get. I strongly dislike timers in any form but it added up to the challange, so it was still a plus in the end. The demo also comes with 3 difficulty settings: Easy/Normal/Hardocre, I went with normal and had a nice challange with the 2 Levels and it took be about 2-3h to finish. Although I admit that I tried to check as much as I could and took my time, you could potentially clear it way faster. The only minor negative thing that comes to mind is the quickload times, but I rather blame it on my potato PC and I wouldnt really weigh it that hard. Pricetag will probably be like 40 bucks when it launches, I've already seen some larger maps on youtube with the devs, I am still totally captivated by the demo. If they can release it like it plays now without any major bugs, its surely one of my most beloved games on 2016. Thanks Mimimi Productions, I rarely have felt so happy and satisfied for a long time. <'3

Everything a Commando Fan Could Ask For

Oustanding game that takes everything good about the Commandos series and both greatly improves and expands upon it. Stealth is handled much better, resulting in the game being much less of a murder puzzle. The Edo period of Japan is a rich and fresh setting. The characters are distinctive in both ability and personality, with unique and useful skills that are highly satisfying to use. The artwork and sound are excellent. The level design is very good and gives the player latitude to try multiple solutions. The plot thus far gives you reason to go further, and the cut-scenes are well acted and not overdone. Controlling characters is effortless, but there are several keys that you will have to memorize. Overall, this has the trappings to be a superb game. Five stars, without hesitation.

Commandos: Feudal Japan

Finally it has happened, we have a worthy successor to the Commandos franchise. Or well, as far as the demo can show us it'll be this successor on release. Fair warning: do wait for full version reviews. I think what mostly speaks in favor of this game is how open the solutions are compared to what you could in Commandos. Yes, difficulty suffers very slightly - you'll find yourself swapping to Hardcore or attempting the bonus objectives soon - but in return the individual flavor or each character is more useful as you can use them for everything, not just their 1-2 token objectives each map. Very impressive demo, also very stable. One missing feature would be proper Windowed Fullscreen, though.

FOR THE SHOGUN!! -sneaking samurai

I loved it. Reminds me of Tenchu (stealthy assasination games on ps2) but like it, this game isn't exclusively stealthy. There may be levels/missions where its stealth or fail (speculation) but with the current demo, you can go blazing in (and most likely die horribly). Its nice to have games that gives multiple routes to an objective especially with the varying companions you'll have at your disposal. Each has their own strength and weaknesses that may or may not be to your liking. This demo introduces you to three characters and minimally, a fourth. The characters do seem to be lively but its...typical? The demo has two levels and I kept hitting a snag on level one and ended up killing every guard. Unfortunately, level two begins with a countdown of "demo ending" forcing you to rush things when you are learning the new character/enjoying the atmosphere. It probably has the same time limit as the "acceptable" time to finish the mission but I ended up messing badly with the rush. I changed the voices to Japanese so it was hilarious to try to sneak with the samurai yelling warcries. This is a game to look forward to if you're into tactical-sneaky-ninja-Japan fun times. But it will get frustrating with line of sight and all those shiny medals/achievements with every mission.

Ninja Appetizer left me wanting MORE

Gave it a try, ended up gobbling it down like a tasty treat of ninja-sneaky-stabby goodness. Now I'm even more hungry than before and have to endure the wait until the main course will finally be ready on December 6th - which will be even more sneaky-stabby goodness, served with some trap-planting, enemy-luring, shuriken-throwing side dishes that make for a great meal of tactical strategy gaming. Not to mention that the whole thing comes with unlimited refills for your sake bottle (be careful though, the sake might actually be some badass samurai's bait trying to lure you into your death. And I am not even kidding here, it's in the game). Honestly though, great demo (thanks for making an actual demo, you don't see that often anymore) for an upcoming squad-based stealth and tactics game, set in 17th century Japan. Gamers who played games like Commandos or Desperados back in the day will instantly recognize and enjoy the core gameplay so you guys might get a little headstart when it comes to hunting for that perfect run ;) Players who are new to the genre: Definitely give this one a try and find out for yourself why the genre has such a sworn-in fanbase! Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun adds its own ideas, mechanics and bag of tricks into the formula, bringing back tried & true gameplay with a new livery and its own unique setting. I can't wait for the full version! Cheers to everyone working on the game, keep it up :)
