A True Masterpiece

CD Project Red really got it right when they made this game. Whenever I try to think of how to describe it, I find myself always wanting to say that it is truly a masterpiece. The story and the characters are all great. The game play is challenging and a lot of fun. The world is beautiful (even in its battered state). The creativity on the creatures and the depth of how each one has different strengths and weaknesses to exploit is amazing. The attention to detail in this game is like none other. My one critique is that it does get a little slow in the middle, but it adds variety to the game. I have never been one to play expansions to games, but I was excited to do the two expansions on this game because I didn't want it to end. They're just as good as (albeit shorter than) the main game. I would highly recommend playing the complete game with both expansions. This game has good replay value, too. There are a lot of choices you make in this game and it's fun to play through again and choose different options and see how that makes the game play out.

Seriously, you made one of my favorite book series into these great games - the Wild Hunt especially. Thank you for letting me meet all these amazing characters, see them interact, hear them speak - better than I could have imagined. Thank you for showing me the beautiful isles of Skellige, with their amazing music, and the breathtaking starry sky of the dutchy. Thank you for the heatwarming reunion with Ciri - god, she turned out so great. Thank you for all the references from both the books and the previous games, the callbacks made me smile so much. Finally, thank you for hours and hours of fun I had playing as Geralt of Rivia, and big, big thank you for giving me just a bit more time with him after the books ended.

Finishing this game tastes bittersweet

I have to say, this is for sure one of the best games I've played, I dare say it compares to Planescape Torment as far as rpg games are concerned. If the devs read this, I hope they get the meaning of what I'm saying (and I'm fairly sure they do). The weakest part of the game, to me, was Novigrad. The city could host like 3 times as many quests with all the leads that were available. I suspect much was cut due to budget constraints. It didn't feel like the lore was expanded, or the city life (high and low) was truly explored. A bit of a shame. I found the sunken treasures in Skellige somewhat tedious, too. Finally, the gwent mini game wasn't what I signed for buying an rpg, but it was well integrated into the game lore and provided worthy quests and interesting ways to deal with classic quests. As I said, one of the best games I've played, and I'm not famous for being easily pleased. The guest arriving at the end of Blood and Wine was a nice finishing touch to me, it was in my thoughts but I didn't take it for granted. Time to uninstall this game, wich is great news after so much time, but I'll miss it like an old friend. Maybe, in a few years, I'll play it again just like I did with Torment.

Flawed Masterpiece

This is a very good game, probably one of the best, but there are a few inexcusable flaws that I must deduct a star for. One star for the admitted graphical downgrade, lack of HDR support on PC, the continued use of inaccurate screenshots used on the store page that are not representative of the final product and not releasing the REDkit. I held off on passing immediate judgement for these shortcomings, assuming that these issues would be fixed in an enhanced edition of the game, as was the case with previous series entries. I know this is a very unpopular opinion but it is how I feel. At the very least I hope GOG will replace the store page images with some accurate ones or label the ones that are inaccurate. I hope this is taken as constructive criticism for future games and not written off as hate speech. There are many bugs but that is to be expected in a game of this scale and I have yet to encounter any game-breaking ones. Personally, I have never been a fan of the English voice acting for Geralt in any of the games but that's more of a nitpick. As for positives, there isn't really much I can say that hasn't been said in other reviews. The story, side quests, characters, music and acting are all on-point. To reiterate: This is a wonderful game, although its flaws should not be overlooked.

Amazing game!!!

I feel emptiness after completing the game and GOTY content. I have big hope that more games during my life will have epic story like Witcher! Bows to the creator of the novel and the game!
