Ambitious, but that's about it
The GOG team did what I would call God's work in polishing this game up, but as the game's reviews at the time say, it's, well, okay-ish at best. I loved the setting; the claustrophobic rooms and rainy weather really add to the sense of dread and fear. I just wish they kept the ambiance to the sounds of the ships, alarms, and water splashing; the sudden loud action music feels jarring. The mix between fixed angles for overall movement and over-the-shoulder cameras for combat feels clunky and annoying; you mostly fight the camera rather than the enemies, but I did find the idea of having to use the aiming camera to read the texts in Russian FANTASTIC. I would love if more games used this idea. The concept of having the flashlight tied to your starter pistol is just horrible; you can't even have it without a weapon drawn. You NEED to aim, which just feels cumbersome while exploring dark rooms or looking for items. To end this, I have to applaud the design team for making the new saving currency your patience. When and where will you be able to save? I dunno, really; you don't have control over when you'll be able to save, it's just when the game feels like it, so good luck planning for tough fights and whatnot. It's also tied to your difficulty, so folks playing on HARD will barely get any save opportunities. You might just reach a room without any resources without knowing.
