Description

In the 24th century, the remote planet B104-GS12 hides a dark secret. Once a military outpost, then a penal colony, the site — known as the Citadel — became a covert laboratory for illegal biotechnological experiments on human subjects.
 

When all communication with the Citadel suddenly goes silent, a military spaceship is sent to investigate. Before answers can be found, the ship is destroyed, and you crash‑land on the hostile world as the sole survivor.
 

Stranded 12 light‑years from Earth, with no hope of rescue, you are forced to enter the Citadel’s depths to complete your mission. To uncover the truth you must explore the mysterious halls, the remnants of forbidden experiments, and do what’s necessary to ensure your survival.
 

It’s you against the Citadel — and whatever horrors lurk within.
 

The game is a PC remake of the classic 3D FPS 1995 Amiga game “Citadel”. It reuses the original assets and maps to provide a retro feeling, while adding modern gameplay and graphical enhancements.

 

  • Full re-write of the original Amiga game for modern platforms
  • Level graphics updated including textures and enemies
  • Some level maps updated for better playing experience
  • Touch and Xbox controller support added
  • Difficulty re-balanced
  • Training options include additional levels
  • Intro and outro are available from the main menu
  • Quicksave/quickload support added (F5/F9)
  • Added 3 levels of graphics details. For full retro experience change details to low. For the most immersive experience use high details.
  • Added weapon auto-change and weapon switching using the mouse wheel
  • Added support of full screen modes (F1/F2)

A look at how the other half lived.

Being a PC owner in the 90s meant DOOM, as in we had it. Amiga owners did not, so programmers got to work trying to make their own "Doom, but for the Amiga". One such effort was Citadela, or Citadel. It's got a lot of heart and atmosphere, and I can forgive the lack of an on-screen weapon, but it commits one of the cardinal sins of shooters: No fallback melee weapon for if you run out of ammo. That's right. If you run out of ammo, you have no way to defend yourself. That brings the game down a bit to me.

really cool remaster

i really liked the design of the main character, the gameplay is preety good, i thought the art style to be really charming, one thing i really like is the game over screen, the music is pretty mysterious and you can see the character in full scale wich is a nice detail, the levels are prety cool, my favorite was the center because the enemies remind of the stormtroopers, the game is free wich is pretty nice :D thank you gog and all envolved for bringing cool games like this :D

Great remaster

I spent countless hours playing Cytadela on the Amiga back in the day drawing maps on paper, getting lost in those maze-like corridors and fighting through that raw nightmare. The Remonstered edition doesnt just bring back memories but it finally delivers the experience the game always deserved, with smoother performance and noticeable improvements. It still feels rough and old-school (limited map visibility, scarce ammo etc) but thats exactly its charm.

A tribute to the classics.

It’s a real pleasure to be able to play this classic Amiga on Linux, directly from GOG, I played on Linux Mint with a Logitech F310 controller. A special thanks to Virtual Design for the remake of Citadel Remonstered, which developed the Linux version. And a big thank you to GOG for thinking about the Linux community, it’s a very appreciated gesture!  Citadel Remonstered is old and it’s getting older, so it will appeal to the video game archaeologist. I didn’t know her in 1995 but I appreciate the discovery and it seems that the remake has many fixes and improvements that make it better than at the time. The game isn’t easy, but I had a good time, which I also hope you get to know. Overall, it’s a good experience that deserves five stars, even if it remains far from the current standard.
