pedrovay2003: I know NOTHING about this game, but I just bought the retail CD version of this game, and it didn't work on one laptop. However, it worked on another one (one with a dedicated graphics card) and -- get ready for this -- an Asus eeePC netbook. On both of those machines, I didn't have to change the compatibility mode, I didn't have to disable Aero, and I didn't have to do ANYTHING other than just run the main .exe. I don't know if that helps anyone, but there you go.
I downloaded from gog.com....Tried all settings suggested by GOG person. Game still does not work. GOG should come up with a solution asap. It has been over a month fiddling with this system to run this game. I have windows 7 64 bit display 16 and 32 bits and all the other settings suggested by GOG person. HELP HELP HELP HELP HELLP HELP

Okay, so I fixed Zork, and every other game that had similar problems. I found this random tutorial online, and as ridiculous as it sounds, it worked absolutely flawlessly, and Zork runs great now.

I'm having the same issue, and this fix also worked for me. I have no idea why this works, but it does.

You are insane. "this may cause some problem if your computer uses to another activity like work, study, or some else beside RA2." So wreck your computer to get another broken GOG release to work, brilliant. And I actually had the morons in GOG support send me your ridiculous solution for the latest in the long list of broken game I bought from them. I've changed my solution. I don't pay for games from GOG any more. If they have something I want, I get the GOG release for free by other means. They sure owe me for the amount of money they've stolen from me by selling games they know don't run like Zork GI.

Uh... Your computer only becomes hard to use if you leave it like that. After you finish playing, just change your screen back. Did you even try the solution before you decided to call my solution "ridiculous?" Sure, I agree that it should be easier to just install and run, but honestly, who the heck actually gets GOG games by "other means?"

This just randomly started working fine for me on the same PC with no changes. I would guess therefore it was a driver or program conflict of some sort, not related to compatibility modes and what-not.

My husband and I tried that tutorial because we were having the very same issue. It's not fixed.

We believe it might actually have to do with the graphic codex that is being used by the newer computers. This saddens me as Zork GI has been one of my ALL TIME favorite games - followed closely by Nemisis.

Can you give us any other helpful tips? Other than saving and buying an old still running computer to play this game?

Zengine is basically a new executable that can run Zork Grand Inquisitor on modern platforms without difficulty. If this doesn't help, I don't know what will.
