I've run across a strange problem when trying to play Ys 1 from the Ys I & II Chronicles set. When I run the game from GOG galaxy, or from a shortcut on my desktop, the game loads to the title screen, but then my inputs from the keyboard do not register, or take a very long time to register. Only after mashing the arrow keys several times to move does my cursor allow me to select an option on the menu. For example, I had to keep pressing the down arrow key, and after several presses, the selector moved down once.

I managed to get into the control options thinking I could troubleshoot from there, but when it asks me to choose a run/walk speed, the option switches rapidly between the two choices, almost like my keyboard is stuck.

I removed the batteries from the keyboard, but the issue continued. Next, I tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling, but the problem is still there.

Funny thing was I had played this game a few months ago with my 360 controller, and it worked fine then. I even remember the keyboard working too. Now after returning, I'm having these problems with the keyboard.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Any suggestions appreciated. :)
Well, I had some time to look at this since my last post. I couldn't figure out what was causing this because the issue still persisted when I unplugged my keyboard (it is a Logitech MX 5500, so I thought the Bluetooth was causing the game to act up), but that didn't help at all. I also tried the config settings to make sure I was using the Xbox controller, and it was. Still no fix.

Finally, I just ended up doing a full uninstall of both games, then reinstalling the games, but not through GOG Galaxy. I downloaded the individual installers for both games and reinstalled that way. Thankfully, that worked! I've only tested a little, but I'll post again to update once I've had more time to play.

Kinda silly to answer my own question here, but I've searched a lot over the past month to see if anyone ran across the same problem that I have had. There were similar issues, but nothing exactly the same (and I even tried the resolutions to similar issues and no luck). So just in case someone has the same problem out there, I just wanted to post what worked for me in the chance it will help someone else. :)

How so? It's useful for anyone else who might run into it in the future.

That's exactly why I replied to my own question. :)

After some more testing, it seems like the problem has to do with the Xbox 360 controller. It was enabled in the config settings, so if the controller was off when I started the game, the issue with the keyboard freaking out would happen. It wouldn't help to turn on the controller once the game was started either (the game wouldn't register that I had one). I needed to make sure the controller was on before I started the game.

I also found out that if the controller shut off after a period of inactivity (about 15min) while in-game, then I could turn the controller back on with no problems, as long as I had turned the controller on before starting the game.

Anyway, just beat Dark Fact (what a pain!), and I'm on to Ys II!

Well, har har! :D
This whole thread of mine is becoming more of a personal troubleshooting log than a conversation! Yuk Yuk!

So I took a break from Ys II for a couple months and when I went to fire it back up again, the keyboard wasn't responsive and neither was my Xbox 360 controller. Fortunately I had this whole thread to give me an idea on how to fix it.

Turns out all I had to do was go into the games directory and run the config.exe file. Then go to the input settings tab and make sure the Xbox 360 controller was selected as my input device (have to make sure it's on first!). Once I applied the change and ran the game, the controller worked again. :)

Thank you for this. It helped me solve a problem on the Oath game I was experiencing where the xbox 360 controller left !!stick was stuck in the up position. Changing it to the xbox controller made it work for me!!!

It was somewhat helpful for me - I came looking to determine if either 1/2 or Felghana are reasonably playable with KB&M.

And having read this thread, I'm fairly sure you own a keyboard.

Yep! I do have one of those, but I preferred to play this with the controller. Much easier to sit back and vegge out!
Glad it helped some!

I ran into this problem and was able to fix it by opening the configurations app the game has built in. You can access it in the additional executables option, it's labeled as configuration tool. There you will have a bunch of things you can customize that aren't present in the game and one of those things is the game pad device by the input settings tab. In my case I had to change it as it was in the wrong device and was causing the bug you described.
