Is anybody else experiencing this issue? The ice around the pink ghost writer will not melt at all. I've tried with the fire plant, sonic attack, and the bomb plant.

It will still eat the bomb plant and turn green, but the ice will never melt or break away.

For whatever reason, that ice can't be melted. Ice cubes with a teal/greenish outline need to be destroyed with Lalyee's shockwave ability (crouch + sonar shot), which is unlocked in world 3.

Thanks...and I feel stupid...

After the first 5-10 times that nothing worked, I ended up looking up what you're supposed to do and all guides/anything said to use the fire plant. When that was clearly not working, I thought I was running into a serious bug...

I like the game, but the areas where you need specific powers are very poorly explained, if at all.
