I need to get Reinforced Metal Plating to complete construction on my Capital ship. But, how and where do I do it. I have been looking for a week.

I have also been trying to build "URV WARF" but it keeps asking me to put the building platform in the same sector with a Commander. I am confused by this. I hired Commanders, still not recognized. I even assigned the commander to ships in th zone, and I still cannot get construction started. I put money, (lots of it) into the bulding account, and I still cannot get construction started. I cannot stop the process.

I have been working on these two missions for more than a week and I am stuck. I checked on YouTube and there is nothing to help me there either.

Amy help on this game would be appreciated. I have other questions and I wish that I could contact someone, in-the-know to explain. I cannot find any help on most of this stuff and the tutorials are absolutely worthless for training.

Thanks in advance.

Solved.

There are quite many X games. Which one is this exactly?

EDIT: Seeing you post in another thread about X:Rebirth I presume that is the one. Then I cannot help as I have never played it, so sorry.

DavidLHall:
Hello there!
Let me help you.
As I get it, you are playing "X: Rebirth", campaign mode, to be precise.

1) I assume, you have been given the task of building the "Integrative URV Forge" (campaign exclusive one of a kind station) in the "Glaring Truth" sector of the "DeVries" system via also one-of-a-kind construction vessel (aptly named "Construction Vessel", not "Construction Vessel (DV)", not "Construction Vessel (AL)", not "Construction Vessel (OL)" and not "Construction Vessel (HL)", just plain "Construction Vessel" without any suffixes). If you have started building it in any other sector than "Glaring Truth", then I suggest you to load a pre-building save or just simply start over as you've screwed the script.

2) If you have problems with the actual building, but the "Construction Vessel" have already been "installed" in place (those side parts have been spread out) then check that the vessel actually has "Construction URV"s readied (lised as "Units", not as "Cargo" in the ship's window).

3) The construction will not start if even one of the resources is missing (it can start with it being present but not in sufficient quantities), so you need to provide resources to your vessel. And do not rely on your architect -- she will buy resources only from the local system (or, more precisely, only local free traders will see her offers) and, as you've probably noticed, DeVries'es economy is virtually non-existent. There is nowhere to purchase Reinforced Metal Plating in DeVries so you'd better not waste your time and start getting it manually.

4) As you've also noticed (if you do not have HoL expansion), the only side having RMP is PMC which has hard-coded -20 rep and attacks you on sight. So, this is your cue. Just get a good boarding officer, a spare Captain (probably, an Engineer too) and 50 marines and start waiting for PMC's cargo transporter with RMP in it. Preferably a Sanahar (as it is lighter than Rahanas and easier to board, but Rahanas is also easy). A good spot would be somewhere near the jump beacon (Albion>Inner World>Cuspid Splint is a good place). And after a successful boarding either have a second (working) container transport ready to start immediately reloading your loot and flee from retribution, or get the Engineer you've brought in the trophy ship to fix its engines and keep it for you.

Thank you for the responses. I did not know that I had any response, and that is why I am so late in this post. I have since figured out how to do most of these things. I am dealing with a new issue. I would like someone to explain how to get my minerals identified when I am in space looking for Nividium? At one point, when I clicked on an asteroid, it identified the ore inside and how much there was to be mined. Now, I cannot get it to do more than say asteroid. I have tried turning on the mining mode with mining ships in the area; and, I still cannot identify the asteroids. Why did I see the information before, and not now? I am going to do research on this topic. I am working on the Egg Collection assignment. Contact by email would be nice to let me know how to activate this feature in X Rebirth.

Thanks in advance.

Hello.

Most of the time you don't need asteroids to be identified (the mining vessels know what to harvest). And I suggest you to not bother with manual mining with your laser -- it is a waste of time. Just get yourself a dedicated miner (equipped with a mining laser) and send to the zone via order (no need to include it in your squad), but watch for the enemies, of course. :)

The only time it is reasonable to check asteroids is during "egg hunt" (as you've probably read it somewhere, authentic eggs drop from large nVidi…um asteroids). To scan just simply get close to it and click on it with the mouse cursor. If only the name "asteroid" shows in your radar, then you probably switched your radar mode. To test it, select any ship: radar window has two modes (just name for ease of looking onto the "map" or detailed info overlay with scan %, current orders, faction name, hull and shield %% etc.). You need to switch it into full info mode (sorry, I won't give you button instructions as I've heavily modified my layout and don't remember the default keys) to see asteroid contents.

But honestly, it is easier to just look ta them:
"normal looking" shape grey asteroid == ore
"normal looking" shape, but with orange spots == silicon
"normal looking" shape, but either glossy or transparent == ice
thorny like a hedgehog grayish silver colored == nVidi…um (sorry, I can not restrain myself :) ).

Seek them in Omicron Lyrae->Commerce Core->Last Stand.

I never did thank you for this information. Thank you very much.

I have come a long way since this initial post. None-the-less, I still have problems with the gaming freezing and sometimes I cannot save my game. When that happens, I cannot even access any menus.

Since I now have more than 1200 hours in the game, I may be able to help others.

Try "Alt-Tab"-ing from and into the game. It helps resetting some internal logic so the game un-freezes. At least on Linux (dunno for other OSes).

The solution is to Press Shift R That turns the data on and off on the radar screen. If it is turned off, asteroids are not identified. I just learned this and apologise for any inconvenience to others. This is a game play issue and I found the solution on Egosoft.com technical support.
