I just released an overhaul for Wizardry 8. If anyone is interested in checking it out go to the nexusmods page and look for Wizardry 8. (i couldn't link the page unfortunately)
If you have feedback/suggestions please use the nexusmods page for that.

Just read the changelog. Awesome.

Here is the link: https://www.nexusmods.com/wizardry8/mods/1?tab=description
Thanks for linking it. Glad you liked the changelog. If you have any problems or suggestions feel free to leave a comment on the nexus page or on the discord for my mods. (link for the discord is on the nexus mod page in the "posts" tab)
Please download the new version. I made a mistake and uploaded a slightly older version and therefore the changelog was not 100% accurate. That won't happen again. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I also tweaked some small things and updated the changelog accordingly. There will always be patch notes in the log tab of Nexus mods.
Thanks.
I made another mistake while uploading 1.01...
Update 1.02 is out now with everything working as intended and a ton of additional balance changes. Including an alchemy rebalance. Please make sure you follow the install/update instructions carefully.
Your game probably didn't work as intended so be sure to install everything again and make sure that the main menu is showing "v1.2.4 (powered by CFAgent v4.23)" in the top right corner.
After that you'll need to create new characters so that the changes are applied to the races/classes.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

If I've never played Wiz8, should I try this out?
As a sidenote, I probably won't replay the game if I play it once and finish it.
I would say definitely, yes. But i may be biased. :)
Aside from making the game more balanced and a bit harder many things are just much less tedious. Less respawns/higher stack sizes in inventory/ increased speed of projectiles/an instruction how to properly install the game for modern machines.
You can always just play on easy if you don't have much experience with games like this. But normal difficulty should be fine.
There are also no new locations/quests/dialogue and such so aside from the changes mentioned it's still the vanilla experience.

Very cool, i'll favorite this thread and use your mod when I come around to playing it.

If there are no changes on the base game, I guess the only reason to use injection are changed base values for races/professions?

That would be possible without injection, iirc all offsets in the exe for those values have been revealed,
in case interested to get rid of injection and the related higher effort to install the mod, check this topic: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/cosmicforge/offsets-in-wiz8_v124_nocd-exe-and-later-versions-t190.html

Also there is the 1.26 exe originating from russian community (iirc author pokoinik?)
which allows higher attribute and resistance values before they roll over,
and the new 1.28 exe from author myoffice91 with capability to configure via .ini file
whether the game is launched bare, with injection, Lua scripting support, and more

As a sidenote, I am quite curious, but unfortunately nexusmods requires registration to dld.

Do you have the URLs for these?

TIA

For the 1.26 exe go to vk.com/wizardry_8, click on the "Links" section and select entry:
"Wizardry-8 Mods/Paths Rus/Моды на русском"
then the 2nd last entry ending with "wiz - 8 eng".

Regarding the 1.28 exe, I must admit to have no link at all, only some info which may be helpful:
Archive name on my disk is:
"Wiz8 Фан-патч v1.28 beta2- 11 июня 2019 г.rar" (pretty sure I did not change the original file name)

The archive was downloaded on 2019 jul 27,
and the date of extracted file "Wiz8_v128_eng.exe" is 2019 mar 18.

(note that I did not manage to find a dld url for the archive with these infos)

Optionally you could ask the author "myoffice91" directly in one of the related discussions,
either on russsian language VK sub forum linked above,
on postcount wizardry 8 board:
http://www.postcount.net/forum/showthread.php?231015-Wizardry-8-Tool-1-0-3-quot-Portrait-Manager-quot
or on cosmic forge discussion forum, topic:

Exactly, the only reason for the injector are the changed base values for races/professions.

Would it be better not to use an injector or just easier to install? Because this looks like quite some work to me. I'm also not sure if I could remove stamina regeneration from fighter with this for example.
I do use the 1.26.exe from zimlab. ("Wiz8-v126-eng")
To be 100% honest i was never quite sure where these .exe files come from but CF does require these for the injector. Is there anyone I should credit for these?

Thanks for taking the time and telling me this, I appreciate that!

It was entirely about making the install process easier for users,
I dont think it makes a difference regarding whatever may be considered as "better",
the vanilla game runs smooth here on 18 year old business notebooks regardless whether bare or with injection,
while increased texture resolution and/or higher amount of faces for terrain/monsters certainly has an effect on performance,
probably not only related to old hardware, the engine also appears to have its limits.

Yes it may be quite some work to adapt an exe, especially since offsets for some stuff is missing, sorry about that,
fighter stamina regen and all class and race related spcls are missing,
and apparently not as easy to spot for me as the long regular patterns of attributes.

I have no idea who created the 1.24 exe, and 1.26 is also rather old,
1st mentioning I know of is this thread:

https://kamrad.ru/showthread.php?s=7869686432fa6e25c7ab8d566a22bc7d&postid=969388

but there is no info about the author, however iirc in a thread on buka wiz8 forum (its its linked on VK ;)
user pokoinik was mentioned as the author of 1.26 exe.

I thought 1.24 was last official update from Sir Tech? I may be remembering wrong.
