Ohio9: I really want to enjoy this game, but it's hard when I keep dying so much. I can't build up any character when they are dying all the time. Is there no way to replay a mission when you die instead of just accepting the results every time?
mattfalcus: The game is about following the war day-by-day, so in the original there was no option to go back in time and retry a mission you were unsuccessful in, as this wasn't realistic.
In Wings Remastered Edition we added the ability to restore your save game. It saves every 5 missions, so you have the chance to retry if you do die.
I wouldn't mind the permadeath aspect so much if nearly every dogfight mission wasn't a death trap. The combination of near useless friendly AI wingmen and enemies that eat up more bullets then the terminator before they go down makes death a near certainty every time.
The constant death of pilots really kills game immersion because I can never get attatched to the character I'm playing. It also totally cancels out the rpg elements.
What a shame. I love WW1 air combat and I really wanted to like this game, but it just didn't work out. Wings of Glory is still the supreme champion of the genre.
