I was replaying Privateer 1, and decided to only attack Kilrathi and Retros, since you never ally with them, and tried not to attack anyone else unless it was needed for a story-related mission.

I found out pretty early on that I was able to turn all Pirates friendly simply by using the 3rd conversation option on them over and over again. So long as I did that over and over again and didn't kill any, they were peaceful.

In order to build up cash for a better ship, I only accepted missions related to killing Retros or killing Kilrathi. Mostly Retros, since Kilrathi are pretty difficult until you get a better ship, and once I fully upgraded my ship, I didn't really need to take missions anymore.

When I did the story-related missions, if I could run away, I did. I was able to avoid killing pirates or militia or hunters that way until I reached Oxford.

In the escort missions, you're forced to kill Pirates and Hunters targeting your escorts. It's the only way to complete the mission. I tried completing the mission by just flying around the Pirates or Hunters and allowing the escort to reach the planet unscathed, but once the escort ship reaches the planet, it just sits there right in front of the planet...doing nothing. If you try to go to the planet without killing the Pirates/Hunters trying to kill the escort, then it'll register as a failed mission. As a result, I racked up 6 forced Pirate kills and 6 forced Hunter kills.

The Pirates were forgiving. I just used the 3rd conversation option on them a few times and they stayed friendly. The Hunters turned from friendly to neutral. I couldn't turn them back into being friendly no matter how many times I used the 3rd conversation option on them.

Then came the blockade. I'm forced to kill a bunch of Hunters to break the blockade, turning them all into enemies. In addition, a bunch of the Hunters were in Centurion ships, which I guess are considered army vehicles since that made the Confederates and Militia hostile to me as well. Thankfully, they weren't *too* hostile, since they would stop attacking me after I used the 3rd conversation option on them a few times, but they stayed hostile.

As a result, every organization in the game was hostile towards me except for Pirates (I only killed 6 of them) and Merchants (I didn't kill any of them).

Fortunately, later on I was able to get the Militia and Confederation to be Neutral to me after killing a bunch of Kilrathi. But I just thought this was a pretty funny result to achieve when I was trying my darnedest to maintain friendly relations with as many factions as possible.

Hunter will be friendly when you'll kill pirates. Sorry. It's a cruel world and you can't be friendly with everybody... or maybe you can:

If I had to take a guess, I would say that you simply overdid your pirate friendly approach, which lead to your unfortunate state.
I never achieved anything remotely similar, but I have to admit, that I always enjoyed killing hunters (eliminating competition) - and also, I always managed to be on friendly side of confeds and militia (hunters are not part of the military).
Killing hunters has another advantage - "killie cats" are easier to placate and trust me, at one point you will want this.
The only faction, which is always hostile are Retros.

Btw. survive long enough and in Righteous Fire things will radically improve at one point.

Yeah, normally at this point of the game the MC would usually have killed lots of Retros and Pirates, and maybe a few Kilrathi. So even if killing the Hunters may make the Militia/Confeds hate you a bit, if you killed a bunch of Pirates, the Militia/Confeds would still consider you an ally.

But since I killed so few Pirates, killing those few Hunters made the Militia/Confeds turn on me.

Yeah, I could do that, but when I started Righteous Fire I just transferred my character from just before I started my missions at Oxford to preserve my zero-Hunter, zero-Pirate kill streak. I preferred it that way.

Kilrathi missions are also much more plentiful in Righteous Fire, so even if I have to kill a few Centurion planes, Militia/Confed would probably still be friendly towards me.
