Vagabond: The patch has been updated! Check out the changes here:

http://www.wcnews.com/news/2014/09/30/the-darkening-s-enhancement-patch-gets-even-better
Well, I am very sad, it doesn't seem to work for me. Here's what I did so far
- Downloaded Privateer 2 installer from GOG.com and launched it
- Installed to C:\GOG\Games\Privateer 2 - The Darkening
- Extracted the zip file (p2_patch_test3.zip) directly in the above folder
- Ran darkfix_setup.exe
- Setup DarkFix.exe to run in Win 98 compatibility mode

And I get stuck with an error message about memory something something. I'm currently at work so I can't reproduce it to get the exact error message (not without risking a lot of strange looks from my colleagues at least) but I was wondering if anyone had encountered that problem?
So, I installed the game, got the patch. I run the patch and the origin logo animation happens, then a blank screen and nothing. Any ideas? I tried xp compatibility mode, I wil try other I guess. Running windows 8.
I too am very Sad!

I have followed many of the same steps as above:

- Downloaded Privateer 2 installer from GOG.com and launched it
- Installed to C:\GOG\Games\Privateer 2 - The Darkening
- Extracted the zip file (p2_patch_test3.zip) directly in the above folder
- Ran darkfix_setup.exe
- I did not edit or do anything with DarkFix.exe

The game launches. The FMV looks great. I even flew between a two planets for a while and made some cash to upgrade my ship.

However, if I ever encountered pirates, I would have to just Alt+X because the combat just runs too fast.

Everyone's guns fire in a constant fire hose like stream. I go from 100% shields and armor to space dust in less than 3 seconds. If it is only 1 or 2 pirates, and I have a wingman, I can usually defeat them, but if I get 3 or more pirates, I am instant space dust.

This can't be how the game was meant to be played, right?

Or are you just supposed to save often, and reload if you run into 3 pirates?

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, Service Pack 1, 6GB RAM, Intel Core i7 CPU

You might still be having speed issues, but the lasers *are* supposed to fire a near-constant barrage, and your shields + armor can get eaten away pretty quickly if you get hit. So don’t ;) Don’t play chicken with the pirates, circle around and blast them from the rear. Remember to use afterburners.

onegoodman: I had the same problem, and the darkfix_setup.exe has it's own issues. ANyway to get P2 to actually run, try editing dark.fix in notepad and change the first two entries from C to the drive letter P2 is installed. Assuming its installed to another location other than C:
I love you man.

Thanks!

Good to know that the "near-constant barrage" is expected behavior.

I do not play chicken with pirates, and I try to afterburn past them to swing around.

Occasionally, a couple pirates will get on my six, despite my best efforts, and before I can react my shields and armor are gone (under 3 seconds). Perhaps I just need to become a better pilot, but that seems a little extreme.
I installed Priv 2 from Gog, and then installed unofficial patch 3. I'm getting an error when I run darkfix.exe:

The program can't start because MSVCR110.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

Priv 2, on its own, runs fine. It's just the patched version that causes the error. Any ideas?
Hi,

Thanks for the patch! Works great!

Is it me or the patched game is a little bit blurry? I bet it's because Direct Draw hack. Is there any way to make it more sharp?
With Darkfix the game runs very choppy for me. Cutscenes are running just fine but ingame the framerate appears to be capped at 25FPS (according to fraps). As far as I know the game should be capped at 30FPS, shouldn't it?
With the dosbox version I get smooth framerates until I have a planet in front of me - the framerate tanks even lower then. Does anyone have an idea how I can fix the framerate with Darkfix to something playable like at least 30FPS?

System:
Win 7 64 Bit
Phenom II X4 965 @3.7Ghz
6GB RAM
GTX 760

Edit: With Win95 compatability mode it goes up to around 27FPS (still staying at 25FPS most of the time) but the game still looks and feels as if it drops frames a lot.

Since today I'm having problems with the game crashing at various points, especially when reaching Hades. It always crashes when I try toreach that planet. I am, of course, using this awesome patch, version 3.

I'm getting the attached error message. Any ideas?

System: i7 2600K, 16 GB Ram, GTX 780, Windows 8.1 64bit

EDIT: I solved it by enbaling the Win95 compatibility mode. But then the sound stutters in the booth screens and, more seriously, the game freezes when exiting the PAD.

Even after upgrading to a completely new system the game is still super choppy during gameplay. Isn't there anything that can be done about it?

System:
Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit
Intel I5 4690K
8GB DDR 3
GTX 960 4GB
After installing the patch and trying to run darkfix.exe, I get this error message:

"The program can't start because WLWRAP.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

I've tried re-downloading/reinstalling both the game and unofficial patch, but I keep getting this error message. Anyone know what this is about?

That's strange, did you check it's in your P2 folder ? This wlwrap.dll is included in the ZIP file from darkfix, I installed it yesterday and it just worked, the file is there.

Ok, I'm an idiot. Yeah it was there in the zip file. For some reason it never copied over into my P2 directory...even though I unzipped it three separate times. So I manually dragged the file over, but the FMV's still looked exactly the same...barely watchable. Plus all the animations are running superfast. Wasn't the patch supposed to help with these?

Glad it finally worked !

The FMV do look like crap, as far as I know the patch only removes the interlacing (half the lines are black to hide the ugliness of it, it was trendy back in the day).

As for the speed problem I can't help you. Some people say the game is choppy, some say it's too fast... Seems there is no guarantee it'll work for everyone, sadly :(
