mbrito: Thanks for the feedback Bovrillor! Sorry it did not work out for you though.
After some more testing, I can confirm that there are indeed performance issues on slower machines. I dug out my old WinXP EeePC 901 for testing (Intel Atom, 1GHz, 1GB RAM) and, although the issues were not as serious (it did not crash at least), it was indeed noticeably slower.
I'm currently tweaking the patch a bit more though, so hopefully it will behave better on future releases!
No problem!
I just dug out my gaming rig (Dual Core 3.8Ghz, 2GB RAM, WinXP) and got it all installed. Good news - video playback was indeed fixed and de-interlaced, game speed was stable and I didn't encounter any crashing. Great stuff! Win95 compatibility was required to enable spaceflight music.
Only problem was that it wouldn't recognise input from any of my joysticks. I tried a generic USB controller (Logitech Rumblepad 2, to be precise) and a Playstation 2 Controller with a USB converter plug. I can understand why there might be axis-related issues, but even button inputs weren't recognised. This puzzles me o.0 Both controllers work fine with Freespace 1&2
I hope there's a solution for that, since I'm no use with a mouse lol. The patch is looking really strong though - Privateer 2 didn't work this well at release! Good job mate.
edit: @Baggins, the 'email missions' can be accessed from any disc. There may be a point of no return somewhere near the end, I never got that far. They still occur on disc 3.
