with keyboard controls it works fine... But aiming with the mouse is 100x better... theres just 1 problem... Afterburner just does not seem to work if yer using the mouse... like 1 time it worked with right click... like once... butmost of the time right click doesnt work either... as that is the button for doing barrel rolls. Can;t have 2 things on the same key. So the question is how the heck do u afterburner when using mouse flight... This is really important as certain missions are absolutely impossible without afterburning.. such as missions where u have to chase down some people before they get to a jump point or something or U get a total game over... or have u chase down a skipper missle or the victory gets destroyed... etc
I hav'nt checked the manual so I may be wrong but it could be that the afterburner is used by hitting one of the mouse keys, after all if I remember corectly many mice(?) back then had 3 buttons so you may want to check the control settings and change the binding on the afterburner.
I could never get the afterburner to work using just the mouse. I always used the keyboard; I think it was the tab key. You could try doing that to see if you find it an acceptable method.
tab doesnt do anything... I've heard right mouse button works but i've found that right click is for holding down to do barrel rolls and does not afterburner either
Since afterburner with a joystick is double-click and hold button 2, try that with your right mouse button. Just holding joystick button 2 will let you roll and increase/decrease throttle. By the way, button1+button2 is for launching missiles :)

WOW double clicking right mouse and holding it does afterburner, thanks.. However theres still 1 problem.... What if i want to TURN while im afterburning at the same time... U can't.. u can with keyboard only controls but cant with mouse.... this could pose some interesting problems.. U can only afterburner while flying in a straight line. Or what if i want to barrel roll... while turning... while afterburning.. while shooting guns and missles all at once... again.. this is possible on keyboard... and not possible on mouse.
Holding down right mouse to roll is such a huge flaw because obviously now you can't TUrn or pitch up and down while Rolling at the same time. Moves like this are essential for playing this game effectively on higher difficulties... or even easier ones. You can only roll or afterburner while flying in a completely straight line which is just not practical

I've go the same problem. Pressing [TAB] does nothing, which is the way I would like to play! The right mouse key does too many things.
You can use the caps lock key to use the afterburner AND turn. The only problem is it locks the afterburner in the on position. So you need to turn it off once you are done.
Necro thread, so apologies.

This issue has ruined the game for me. Being only able to after burner in straight line severely hampers your flying.
i think this issue is only fixed on WC3 by using the PC Version, WC4 DVD has some strange issues on modern hardware
