So I just barely purchased the game but it won't launch. I click the play button and it will think for a second, then it won't do anything. I ran compatibility mode, and it said it fixed it but it still isn't launching. Any ideas?
actually I fixed it by turning directx on through windows. I think we're good for now
how did you do that? i have the same problem here
solved it on my own, its not directx, its direct play.

Sometimes when you run the game before it boots it will ask if you want to use directplay. If it does ask, tell it yes of course, and it should work fine.

If it doesn't ask, you should be able to do it through the control panel. So from the control panel go into the programs menu, near the top now, under programs and features there should be a "turn windows features on or off" option, click it, that will bring up another menu and you should see a listing called legacy components expand it then make sure directplay has a check mark. It should work fine now but you might need to restart your computer after turning directplay on.

+1 helped me
Thanks a lot
I purchased the game today... however, it didn't launch on W10.

I read the hint to change Window's resolution to 800x600. Yet my notebook display driver (intel hdg 520) doesn't support it. Fortunately there is a tool called "Custom Resolution Utility" to add this (and other) resolutions.

After a reboot I got the game running in W98 Compatibility Mode. Then I changed ingame the resolution to 1024x768.

Even though this is not related to the original post it may help the the folks who have a similar problem and stumble about this thread.
