I just saw that Galaxyhas downloaded a new patch for WH:SotHR and was wondering what that patch did, and if there is a place where patch notes get released.

That's some great news! I'd also like to know what are the specifics. There is "view patchnotes (43417177)" button in the Galaxy client, but unfortunately it's greyed out.

There are just bare details about the change of the build and download size on the GOG Database page of SoTHR.

An up to date changelog would be a very welcome thing.

Apparently the patch modifies and/or makes some internal changes concerning some windows files or folder routes.
At least, when the patch was installed a cmd screen made some changes migrating some files to a different folder. It can be that something changed in later windows updates or maybe they changed where the game searchs for files like wing32.dlls and that kind of similar stuff.

In the end it apparently fixes some compatibility issues under windows 10. Or it should.

But nothig changed about the not present keyboard shortcuts, etc.

The game works perfectly stable under Win10 x64 in my rig. Tried it five minutes ago. The aspect ratio is 4:3 as intended.

About possible aspect ratio issues look into your videocard screen configuration. sometimes it is reset. for any reason.

Then my only advice is that you try uninstalling and reinstalling the game from scratch, or if you are using galaxy let it revise your files again.

it was already posted, the installer has issues at the moment.

also the screen is streching and breaking aspect ratio, even with windows auto rezise on.
Again, GoG doing a shoddy job, mainly during the Warhammer Week for a game which they claim to have the code to fix it.

and its been 10 years, even the old abandonware and retail releases with patches were more stable than this.

For the freeze on "prepare for battle" did you try to alt-tab, run Task Manager -> right click on WHSHR, select "analyse waiting chain" -> look for the offending task and end it?

I did that and it unfroze the game for me.

it seems that nvcontainer.exe is causing issues once more with this game
disabling it at GFE solved it, but still the stretched clipping screens continues.

That's interesting. I remember when I had nvidia gpu I never ever installed nor used again that NV-Experience bloatware they provided back then, because it broke way too many older games with its overlay, or conflicted with some dx9 wrappers, hogged resources, caused crashes, etc. I remember you can disable the nvcontainer process if you aren't using Experience. Dunno how it is now in 2021 though, haven't touched nvidia myself after gtx970 gimped edition fiasco.
There is always two NV container started with OS for me. I can kill them by kill the porcess in Task Manager. But that lead to gameS unplayablility with direct3d render error. I saw somewhere for some games few times that killing process can solve some problems. Never faced myself, i guess that true.

But im never ever use GeForce Expercince or un-official tools and set most settings from Nvidia Control to "by app". Still this two nv_container are running and required for me.
For some games ENB series wrapper didnt work for unknown reason.... For NFS:MW. But killing those process lead to troubles exactly for that game.

In short:
Nvidia drivers starting from 400-series - worse than AMD-Radeon ones. Even up to BSODs.
