So I just bought Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Anniversary Edition since there was a newsletter discount for it and it seemed like an interesting game.

(I know it got bad reviews for no LAN, but got good reviews otherwise; I personally don't require LAN)

But when I claimed the game, it showed up as 4 different games in my Library. According to the store page, 3 of those (Dark Crusade, Soulstorm and Winter Assault) are expansions, while one was the DoW GOTY edition.

Are all 3 standalone expansions? Or do I need to install DoW GOTY edition first and then install those 3?

Or are all 4 played as separate individual games? If so, is there an order I need to play them?

Also, if these games do have an order, are save games transferred to the next game? (ignore this last question if all 4 are standalone games)

Thanks in advance for any info!

From what I understand from Reddit, it depends on what you want to do:

- For offline Skirmish: Just install SoulStorm, it includes all races and maps of the other versions.
- For online Skirmish and campaign: You need the DLC installed to be able to play that particular campaign and to use the races of this DLC online.

So for me I am interested in offline skirmishes only, so I just install SoulStorm and skip the rest.
I do not know the answer to the question on the save games, maybe someone else knows.

Thanks for replying.

I guess I mainly wanted to know about the full offline single-player campaign experience.

So if I wanted to play the offline single-player campaign for each game, do I install each of the 4 games? Or only SoulStorm?

I don't need any of the online features as my gaming pc is Windows 7 and it's permanently offline.

If i rememeber correctly from almost 20 years ago:

-> Down of war 1 and winter assault are both full campaign (Down of war it's not hard but winter the expension it's really hard)
-> Dark crusade and Soulstorm are more some sort of skyrmish conquering worlds (so not really a campaign) (with upgrade for hero)

Thank you both (NivveEU and cybercorps) for your replies.

I think I got the gist of it now. It sounds like all 4 are standalone (independently installed) games and can be played from any particular order.

And from NivveEU said, Soulstorm contains all the contents from the previous ones if playing just skirmishes.

While if I want to play campaigns (from cybercorps), then DoW1 and WA are the way to go. I hope I understood all that lol.

GOG and their outsource General Arcade screwed DoW Gold Edition that should be one game into two games. DC and Ss - entirely separate games. Their are not expansions of original game, they are stand-alone expansions of original engine. That's what standalone expansion means.

In Skirmish SS have all content, but differ balance than DC and WA, worse in some aspects. Well, just differ.
