On Moddb there's this mod

that will fix the Commander button will crash on the gog version of Dark Crusade, by replacing files with their pre-steam Dark Crusade 1.2 version

File is clean according to virustotal :

Tested successfully on my save that had me crashing on Commander screen after taking out the Tau stronghold , after replacing the files with the ones from that mod, i can get to the Commander screen again as shown in screenshot

Probably it would be best to let GOG support know about this fix and if they can maybe contact the mod creator to add this to the GOG version.

I don't think they'll include this, as it is the same case as the mod fix that return LAN support to gog Soulstorm : it uses the games files from the pre-steam changes , and gog in their contract only got the post-steam version of both soulstorm and dark crusade unfortunately.
Or the soulstorm fix would have already been included.

Anyways, i'm happy i'll be able to complete my campaign thanks to that mod, just stupidly lost the battle at the starport, taking too much time while the enemy already grabbed all the servitors around the map.

I can't provide my crashing save anymore because since i use that excellent mod (it's basically a downgrade from the steam version gog is selling to the much more rock sold version 1.2 of Dark Crusade) from the 1st post i have overwritten that save and thanks to the mod i haven't crashed anymore.

Even the commander button still work after taking many stronghold (only 1 left to complete the campaign).

While before using that mod, as long as i completed 1 enemy stronghold mission (it was the Tau one i did first) , the commander button would crash everytime , you can find many people reporting it there , maybe one of them still have one of their crashing saves :

Clean 1.2 are better - no-doubt. Restore LAN, officially DRM free exe instead of back-cracked-back-ported steam version by outsource General Arcade.

But. This is Windows 10+ issue and likely Nvidia. FPS maybe.

Real v.1.2 from Retail DOW Complete have same issues.
