So after you renamed the executable(for example, from WH40K.exe to WH40.exe), do the following steps:

Open regedit

Go to this registry directory:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers

When you have reached this directory find the entry related to your Chaos Gate renamed executable (or add it ***)

My entry , for example looks like this:

C:\GOG Games\ChaosGate\WH40.exe

Double click the found entry and add the following line in the data value field:

$ DWM8And16BitMitigation 8And16BitTimedPriSync 8And16BitAggregateBlts Layer_ForceDirectDrawEmulation

Press ok and run the game.

***Best way for adding an entry is launching the renamed executable and then (only if the registry editor is already opened) press F5 for refreshing the registry

It worked for me, hope it will works for you too people ! :D

Confirming this worked for me. Thanks for the insight!

Any idea what these flags actually accomplish? It appears that some/all of them are configurable in the windows compat GUI, but I'm not sure they all are/
worked for me, thanks alot
Didn't work for me, any tooltips that come up slow my fps down 1.
IT WORKS...for me...on Windows 10 x64.

Pat yourself in the back for a job well done, drk84x. :-)

Also, the game does not install if you try to install it within a few sub-directories. My advice, download the gog installer for the game and install it with a maximum of two sub-directories.
This worked for me too! Great! I had been staring at this game for a while. I still have the CD, but all of my virtual boxes are getting a bit dated. Win95,98,XP.... getting a little crazy! ..although now that the stuttering is gone, I still haven't been able to make the game take a mission....will search the board for the next fix.

Drk84x you absolute legend!

Fixed the issue i had and was very well explained, I tip my beanie to you!

Edit: ah... problem, the stuttering was fixed but now it wont even load a mission.
Edit 2: My bad, i forgot the installation fix, should work just fine now!

Thanks a lot! I didn't even rename anything, still this helped me to fix the stutter...
There may be an easier fix. You can try downloading DxWrapper to resolve the issues with this game on Windows 10. Check out this page:

Warhammer 40,000 Chaos Gate wiki

You should not need to change any registry keys or rename any files.

OK, the link is fixed. Try it now.
This worked for me! great work mate! thank you!
The stuttering fix worked fine, but at the same time killed the sound of the game.

Thats a shame. One of the best parts of the game. The chanting, THE CHANTING!!!!!
