Look at all of these issues people are complaining about in the forums. Few can even get on to the server, and NONE can host without port forwarding?

This is 2019. Shouldn't the GOG support team be making an attempt to make Warcraft II compatible with current operating systems? Shouldn't the GOG support team be implementing firewall hole punching to make sure their paying customers are able to join and host games?

At this point, I feel like this should be a Free game.. Not anything that costs $$$.
Blizz wouldn't let it go for free, not their IP

GOG has done a pretty good job I reckon, I'm loving it

This is standard and correct for all Blizzard's old games. It's even useful, since it means your router can control who joins your games. The games lack an in-game access control beyond the basic password check, so filtering peers by IP is a useful ability.

As an optional feature, maybe. I definitely don't want automatic hole punch.

Although your use case may require Internet multiplayer for you to enjoy it, some people are perfectly happy with the other aspects of the game (local LAN play, single player campaigns). If you want to argue that GOG did a bad job of making the game reliable, that's a discussion worth having, and we can also argue over whether $10 is the right price for the amount of work GOG did. I don't think it's fair to say the game should be free just because GOG's initial releases were poorly done. By that argument, we ought to have free access to the original not-updated-for-current-systems versions of all games that are broken on modern Windows, and pay only for re-releases that make the game install and run smoothly on current systems.

This is pennies for a classic, and it's hilarious how many dipshits like you seem to think the fact that it requires you to do something as simple as port forwarding, which every game in wc2's timeframe required, is somehow a sign of it being defective.

It's like you have zero clue as to anything and just want to run around crying like a dumbass.

I think the greatest injustice was making the internet too easy, the internet should require technical knowledge and basic skills to get on so dumbasses like you wouldn't be here promoting this idiocy.
Its a basic concept of how much is your time worth.

If I can't figure out how to play Warcraft II BNET flawlessly on Win10 in under an hour, i'll pay GoodOldGames.com $10 to do it for me.

Except it's a self-defeating concept when its delivered half-assed and broken.

If you can't figure this out in under 5 minutes you're fucking retarded and don't deserve to be on the internet in the first place.

Not saying he's right about opening this thread, after all I had a very different experience than him. But he didn't pirate Warcraft, it was either gifted to him or he bought it.

If you go to his profile, you'll see he played the game for 3h 36m.
many people still got orginal cds with cdkey and it should work with gog

Games installed on Galaxy (Gog's official client application) appear on your profile page, when you play them.
You can't use it's features (like cloud saves) with an old, boxed copy of Warcraft II.

You can't redeem your digital copy with an ancient cd-key, either.

Thing is - he did. He's even promoting a pirated download on some russian site as "better" version in other threads. Hence my comment.

Port forwarding doesnt work for MANY users. particularly users with dynamic IP's and many people in "3rd world" countries.

I was an admin on the russian server for a couple years, spent countless hours trying to help people forward ports so they were able to host games/join games without conflicting and it's 50/50 at best.

The reality is, anyone here who is pretending like GOG released a product worth $10 is flat out ignorant at best. biased for sure.

they put zero effort into it.. maybe it's because they don't have the ability (blizzard is keeping their hands tied in regards to modifications GOG can make to the client)

I've been playing war2 for 20 years. I started on Kahn, Played some on Kali, moved to Zone, then to B.NET, and have been playing on server. war2 . ru for about a decade now. I came to GOG a couple weeks ago, and GOG is hands down beyond question without a doubt the worst release of war2 i've ever seen.

Take it for what it's worth. There are 2 options to play war2 online. GOG, and .ru ... .ru is not perfect (i spent a lot of time complaining about the hosting issues there as well) but it's better than GOG by at least a factor of 10.

I have one mission in regards to war2. make it live as long as possible. I've spent countless hours training people, many hours making war2 training videos on youtube.. I dont care what server i'm playing on just as long as that server/client is doing the best they possibly can to make sure their users are getting the best experience possible.

if anyone has any interest in learning the game, feel free to come to .ru and type: /mail send tk[as] (insert message)

i'd be more than happy to spend some time with new users who are truly interested in becoming good war2 players.

Now you're talking way more sensible and rational. And now your point is much more clear. I would not claim that this release is ideal, I still would say that all that was a bit of an overreaction.
And you can bet our merry little asses that Blizz is holding their hand - I'm willing to bet it's their patch overall and GOG is just distributing. And knowing how painfully long they patched SC:R and original WC3 (when they added widescreen and stuff that ended up breaking other stuff) to a proper state - I believe that this will be no different. Same with the price, direct your ire to Blizz. I still have a hunch that they are doing these releases only just to try and soothe their hardcore audience they so avoidably angered last year.

Let's stick to reasonable discussion from now on.
