I play games primarily for story, so my question is how much plot is in this or is it just a combat/dungeon crawler?

There is a story. But the story is not the strongest part of the game. In my opinion it is okay. You can compare with Diablo 3 for example. The game is no crawler. It is a classic ARPG like Diablo, Titan Quest, Sacred ....
