Some would Bloodlines a flawed masterpiece, but that really does it a disservice, because its greatest achievement can not be overshadowed by bugs. You wouldn’t fault Venus for not having arms.

Great video, great topic, and that voice made me think it was one of the actual Bloodlines voice actors narrating it at first.

I've been trying to gather my thoughts and start discussions about Bloodlines and Deus Ex because they are both games that are objectively TERRIBLE in similar ways: Wonky controls and action gameplay, underwhelming technical art direction, overall muddy production values. Still, they are two of the best PC games of all time and always incredibly captivating to play at any time. I don't like the word "timeless", but both these games are worth more than the sum of their parts, their individual failings (and they both have many) should not result in great games but they absolutely are. They far outshine more polished and objectively rich games and it is very hard to explain why that is.

I guess they both just struck a nerve, found a one in a million formula where everything comes together in the end. You see what appears to be a rather dull and unattractive woman, not expecting much, but in less than fifteen seconds of her touching you you feel that endless tugging sensation and FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU-

Err...

So yeah, these games are far better than all the evidence would suggest.
You got that right. Thanks for the video. And what "Venus" of gaming, you don't even say... Jeanette, VV, fem. Malkavian, the list is long... Or those real life models that were hired to cosplay vampires during the E3 back in 2004... PlanetVampire still has photos from back then... Here, enjoy!

Great vid. Thanks.

To what you said about atmosphere, I'd like to add that I've lived most of my life in the LA area, and the creators got it amazingly right. Santa Monica (an after-dark date spot) feels like Santa Monica after dark. Downtown feels like downtown. Chinatown and Hollywood blvd are amazing.

Anybody who has been here and doesn't play this game is nuts.

And that haunted hotel...
