I tromped around the ganilov dungeon without too much trouble. Then i stumble on this closet fag hiding named mercurio (who happens to be cool in the 2nd game) and he beats me 7 times. If i dont die, then wilhelm bites the dust. Does anyone know why he is so hard. I mean he's wielding a quarterstaff for christ sake. A staff vs. vampire, no contest. Anyone else know why this loser is so hard?

He's the chider of the Capadochian leader. I believe he has plague breath (one of the most powerful abilities) and he calls up some powerful help to boot.

First thing - there's no need to use such words as "fag".

Second - he is hard to beat because he's the second most powerful member of the Capadochian clan. His plague wind can eat your life out pretty quick and he's capable of summoning help. The good idea is to use Celerity, as it allows you to rain blows at him and escape when he uses plague wind. I think that majority of players had it rough with him and had to try few times, but he's not impossible to kill. Relax and give it a try again, thinking about this battle in a more tactical way.

PS. I might be wrong, but I don't think that this Mercurio and the one from the Bloodlines is the same person.
The Mercurio guy in Bloodlines is a ghoul, one of Lacroix's, so definitely not the same character.
Mercurio is, in my experience, one of the toughest bosses in VTM:Redemption. As others have said his plague breath does serious damage, but on top of that it also drives your frenzy level up very quickly, so you'll need to keep a close eye on that and use blood heal regularly to bring your frenzy level back down (in addition to keeping your health up). Also try to keep yourself and Wilhelm separated so you don't both get hit by plague breath at once. The standard buffs (Celerity, Potence, etc) help, but even with the best tactics this battle can often just come down to chance, so you'll probably have to try it several times before you win.
Thanks for the advice guys. Oh and I have nothing against fags but this guy was being one. You should know that the word fag can either mean a jerk or a gay person. Im sure a few southpark episodes can illustrate my point. Here is the link to the episode-The F Word. http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-episodes/s13e12-the-f-word

Oh and even though he is a top guy and all that, he is still wielding a staff, a blunt weapon. You can try using a staff in barrow, alaska (30 days of night) and see if it works but i doubt it would. The vamp would bite through your throat and that would be it. An edged weapon might work, but not a staff against a ruthless and hardy vampire.

Tried again with different tactics and i got em. Game caught me off guard to be honest. The beginning was almost too easy until fighting mercurio. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

As for getting out of the dungeon, i think something has changed. Ive gone back to level 1 but the gates are closed and there are no switches to open it. Ive tried going every entrance 5 times and i cant seem to get out. Is there an easy travel mode or something cause i just want to get back to the hideout.

Did you get what you were sent for there? I mean the book of Nod, it's somewhere in Mercurio's chamber. I'm sure I was able to get out of there alright, through the very same door I got in.

Oh, and as for the "fag" word - it might be offensive, but it's not what I meant. There's just no need to get so angry because of a game :-)
Sorry about that. I just played it again and there is something wrong with the game cause as soon as i get to the 1st level there is a door barring my way from coming back-the very same way i got in. Is this meant to be that way or is there a lever i have to pull. Im pretty sure i got everything cause wilhelm told me that we should go back.
I give up. This is the 3rd time that i looked for a way out. This time i restarted and killed mercurio again, still the doors are closed. Im going to look for the newest patch.

The game already has the newest patch and applying the patch again will very likely break the game. With most GOG games, applying a patch that is already part of the game often does weird things, like re-introducing the DRM into the game.
If thats the case then what should i do? Am i the only person who cant find a way out of there.
Check out this video. It's after the fight with Mercurio and from 3:10 on you can follow the whole path from Mercurio's room to the exit.
All you should need to do is pick up the Nod fragment, loot whatever else you want to from Mercurio's room, then leave the monastery the way you came in. I think the "trigger" for advancing things is picking up the Nod fragment, so if you haven't done that...
I just watched the video and my game is indeed screwed. If you watch the video at 4:10 when he is on level 1. In my game there are bars barring the way to get in. Something triggered them to close but i dont know how to open them. In the video they are open for some reason.
