Okay, I played this game YEARS ago and it worked great but I have heard that for some reason you are unable to overwrite save slots if you are running on Vista, I am considering buying the game again on here but if that bug isn't fixed I think I'll pass.

Hi, I bought it yesterday and here's how it goes for me, playing with Win7 64bit:

I've overwrote a save slot but it didn't work and when I loaded the old one and came back to the same area I visited before, there were no enemy, no items or treasure, as if the game remembered I had already passed there.
I'm going to ask to the GOG staff if there's a solution for this.

I think that issue is solved on Vista and Win7 by a combination of runnning the game as Admin and changing the savegames folder properties to allow indexation of its content.

This particular post will probably be of interest to you, but you should go over that thread entirely, there are other tips in there.

I can tell you that personnally i didn't run into any bug with VTMR. All i did was install the game as admin and then tick the 'run as admin' checkbox on the shortcut when the game finished installing, didn't have any issue with saves or anything else. I'm on WIn7 64 bit.

Yeah, you're right. I've just tried and it works fine. No problem to overwrite nor loading a previous save (everyting was where it had to be).
I got quite angry and I check only later for a solution :-|.

Anyway thank you!

You're welcome, enjoy your game ;)
You can also get around the save game problem on Vista/7 by installing the game somewhere other than Program Files (or any other "protected" directories) or by turning off UAC.
Thanks for the help guys, I have decided I will give it a shot, I remember really enjoying this game back in the day so I can't wait.
I installed the game on my games partition (e:\...) where no special access rights are required.
Still - in order to overwrite a game - I have to delete the original one. This is also necessary for autosave to work. Well, it's not really autosave if I have to manually delete files first, is it?
Has anyone during the past years learned what causes this behaviour? I mean ... the game CAN save to the disc obviously. It just can't erase the old save data.
(running on Windows 10, 64 Bit, the game starts with Admin rights).
It can override saves just fine for me with the same OS, so it must be something specific to your system...

Did you try to load a overwritten save file? I THOUGHT it would work, since there was no error message - until I tried to load a game.

A workaround guide says to turn off Admin access, but that's not possible for the GoG version.

During my work on the patch I quicksave so often that the 9 slots reserved for this get overwritten regularily...
