If you look at the store page for Urban Chaos, the pictures appear to be in game screencaps with the textures appearing to be a higher resolution variant than you actually get with the game. Case in point, the main characters Police vest, in the store pictures you can see POLICE on the back of the vest. In the game however, its all just a gray blur.

In Options under Graphics I have everything set to Yes.

Am I missing something or is there a higher resolution texture pack available for this game somewhere?

look in this post:

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/urban_chaos/widescreen_resolutions

there you´ll find different exe files that support higher resolutions than the original gog exe

Thats so you can play in a higher screen resolution but will it increase the quality of the textures in the game? Thats what I am looking for.
in my opinion the textures look better in higer resolution, but a new texture pack would be even better but i haven´t heard of something
For me the store screencaps is what the game looks like "out of the box" (1024x768, all graphics set to Yes).

For some reason all in game textures are low res for me, they don't match the store pics at all. I have everything set to Yes and using 1024x768 as well so I have no idea what I am doing different if anything.
I can confirm there seems to be some problem with the texture res.

Here's the GOG game played on my Windows 8 machine:

Here's the same GOG game, played on my old Windows 98 rig (by copying the entire installed folder, a procedure that only works for around 50% of the games):

My Win98 machine has a Voodoo 3, but to my knowledge this game doesn't have Glide support, so it shouldn't make any difference (unlike in Freespace, which looks better on the old machine because it can use Glide instead of D3D).

The higher res textures are obviously included, but it seems on Windows 8 the game won't render them. Any idea why?

Based on disassembled game code, I don't think there are any separate hi-res textures in the game, rather the newer DirectX versions just render the same textures differently/worse. What DirectX version does your Win98 machine have?

Directx9.0c. I just put on the most recent I could find for the system - they don't seem to give trouble with older D3D games anyway.

If you want higher resolution go to this site: http://www.wsgf.org/dr/urban-chaos/en

That increases the resolution, but it doesn't do much for the texture quality. See the screenshot I took at 1920x1080, the textures look just as poor.

Yeah its true there isent much change but there is a little.
Well I just stumbled upon this thread. Wow do these graphics suck. This looks like a PS1 game, especially on the modern PC screenshots where the graphical glitches are present.
Ok, so I've experimented a bit, and found out something. The game automatically reduces the textures' size if you are playing on a graphics card without enough memory. I was able to replicate the low-res textures on a G200 8MB (so I guess the game doesn't use AGP texturing).

In other words, it would seem like the GOG version thinks the system doesn't have enough video memory to run the textures at full size. I wonder what kind of configurations trigger this problem. I have an HD7850.
I have a good time with DgVoodoo 2 for DX. To me the textures are not reduced. Could someone test and give us your experience?
