Word is from a supposedly legitimate inside source that theyre planning on delisting them from Gog.
If they pull the games off GOG then that's just spiteful. They don't even have any DRM and all have single player modes especially the two Unreal games are primarily single player games. All they're doing at that point is encouraging people to use "alternative means" to get them. Good thing I already bought all of them off Steam and GOG years ago.

TheBigCore: If Epic had any decency or respect, they also would have released the source code for Unreal Gold, UT99, and UT2004 to make those games much easier for the community to support.

cpc464: I don't think anyone thinks much of Epic in terms of decency or respect after cancelling UT4 because they couldn't be bothered to have anyone work with the community to finish it.

OldUnreal do maintain the source code for Unreal and UT99 although I suspect the agreement they have with Epic is fairly restrictive. This of course does nothing to help Unreal 2, U2XMP or UT2004.
U2 PC has no multiplayer by itself you need XMP installed and the master servers are still working for that game and you can customize the master server list in the main menu

Unreal 2 Xbox I think you need system link or something

UT2004 OpenSpy is working, so really we got all bases covered, but UT4 the newest one is locked in a PAK file and the URL to run it is broken outside EGSL so well we can tinker with that but why since Epic clearly went with Fortnite.. I am surprised they are bringing UT3 here to gog because it uses a cd key to login and play online

But Unreal is a Good Old Game (GOG) They listed Jazz Jackrabbit and older classics here why delist them geez

I was referring to source code rather than issues of multiplayer but yes it is good that there are solutions in place before the shutdown. It is weird to me that they haven't just updated the games to point to the new master servers, I mean it doesn't cost them anything. They could even pretend they care about the community this way by indicating how they are transitioning to community hosting.

Not quite sure what they are going to do to UT3, I suspect it won't be possible to do certain things without logging in though.

They're not selling them on EGS either though.
They're being taken down from GOG as well.

Buy it now I say before it gets delisted... i really love the music
could someone please clarify if the GOG/Steam version are one and the same?

i already own all the Unreal games in Steam. i bought them a long time ago in an anthology pack.
but now i noticed that 2 games in GOG have a bit different title than Steam's:

Unreal 2: The Awakening Special Edition
Unreal Tournament 2004: Editor's Choice Edition

the Steam titles dont have the extra special/editor choice edition wording.
are they different versions?
unfortunately they have already been delisted from Steam, and i dont know how else to compare them with GOG.

They're the same, store page of 04 is Editor's Choice on Steam too.
Already had them on Steam but i'll buy here too because I love the games and it never hurts to have a convenient fully offline copy, kinda sucks giving that much money to Epic tho, at least there's nothing more they can destroy right?
Hey,

To keep you guys in the loop, there's a bit more to this story than previously known. Epic removing the Unreal franchise from storefronts is in connection with them recently being sued half a billion by the FTC.

While Epic are totally guilty in this case of lining Fortnite with 'dark pattern' psychologies throughout the microtransaction system in Fortnite which mostly exploit (but not limited to) younger users, the FTC is also guilty too of driving the Unreal franchise off of storefronts.

As part of the FTC's punishment towards Epic, the FTC basically (in a heavy handed and non legal way) invoked COPPA, and are now claiming that "Just because a game is labelled as mature or has a mature age rating, does not prevent underage users from playing it", meaning the FTC are threatening Epic that an age rating is not enough anymore, and give or take threatened them to either add COPPA compliant overarching parental controls to these titles or remove them from being sold.

Over the past week or so, OldUnreal are trying to work something out with Epic in order to get the franchise back on storefronts in some way, Epic are on Christmas holiday for a while though and the community liaison will be back in a few days, but Epic are regardless keeping their lines of communication open with us.

So if I understand this correctly, Epic needs to add COPPA-compliant parental controls on the Unreal games and that would allow Epic to reinstate those games on GOG, Steam, etc?
I still have my retail copy of Unreal Anthology.

And of course I own all of these on Steam.
Anything different b/t Unreal Anthology disc retail versions, Steam, and GOG versions of these?

From what I understand yes, or it may be that OldUnreal will have to do it for them, communications between Epic and OldUnreal are still open anyway.

But the other problem is that this sets a very bad precedent. They're essentially making an example out of Epic in this case, but one could wonder if they may attempt to go after other mature titles too in the name of COPPA, which by itself can be over arching even without the non legal way which the FTC used it.
Okay, let's say the FTC basically ran Epic down for the MTX's, so Epic has to take MP aspects out of their games and/or pull the servers.

So, Unreal 1, 2, UT, and UT 2004 really ain't laced w/ MTX's...so, maybe they should just sell single-player only version of these games? Will FTC allow the games then?

Granted, that probably removes 1/2 of the point of many of these games (i.e. the Multiplayer) - that's if anyone's even playing them anymore in this era - but at least these games have solo offline components.

Unreal: Gold and Unreal 2 actually have legit single-player campaigns with no MTX's.
