I remember the ending being scorching HOT! With all those fire spells I was throwing around, I was torching all the enemies in the endgame, while reflecting their projectiles back at them.
(Yes, I did beat the game as a pure mage on Hard++. (I did allow the use of staves and robes, of course. With the right setup, magic is *really* good in the late game.)
