Soooo... I see a lot of multiplayer problems in the postings here. I went to the Unepic website and they require a serial number in order to register to the website. Of which I was not given when I purchased Unepic through GOG.

Is multiplayer working for anyone?? I was able to create a character and go to the 'House/Town' area under the multiplayer tab, but that's as far as I've gotten. Kind of strange to me that it requires an IP address in order to use multiplayer (host or join).

I think I'm about halfway through the single player campaign and I'd love to test out multiplayer if anyone has a server running... or gotten multiplayer to work at all.

Any feedback would be much appreciated :)

Multiplayer only works with Hamachi. I have tried it with multiple people I purchased the game for and Hamachi is the only working solution right now. Also the GOG version does not support the Official maps. On the unepic official website it clearly states the GOG version will have the official maps. Also 6 months ago the "Dev" found some old drm that requires a config file workaround which is still needed just to have access to the 4th dungeon in multiplayer. I have already reached out to GOG for a refund for me and my friends i purchased the game for recently. The Dev is to blame here, and he has obviously abandoned this version of the game without completing it. I suggest you ask for a refund and get it on steam.

I'm very happy with single player mode. I usually only buy games for their campaigns/stories, what have you. But it seems like this game has so much potential!! As niche as it is, pointed towards roleplaying video and board game players, I still feel like it has a great story and amazing gameplay. One of the best 'metroidvania' games that I've played since Castevania HD.

It's a shame if what I've been reading is true, that the 'dev' chose to abandon the game and title it finished with so many bugs and incompatibility issues. I guess, with half the game 'broken' a refund does seem to be in order. Like I said, I'm not big on multiplayer gaming, but with this game I'm very interested to see how it works. Damn DRM restrictions. GOG/Steam/Origin... it's like we have platforms inside of platforms.
Yeah im with you on this one. The game has SO SO much potential especially with the map editor and stuff. But the fact that there is 0 available to download on the internet means that the GOG version has no functionality with this unless its with friends. I dont know if there is a way to upload maps to the net, but if there were, im sure someone would have been doing it already by now. Really makes me sad.
You should also write to the dev to push him to make this version equal to the steam one. I already did. My focus was on having multiplayer on Linux, but having access to community made maps is also really important. If he could add crossplay functionality, that would be awesome. I have mixed feelings with this game, because I love it but unfortunately the dev cares mostly of the Steam version. That said, I partially understand it because he used steam libraries to make the multiplayer and had to remake some things to made the multiplayer for GOG version. That's the price you pay using proprietary tools that tie you to a specific platform. I hope he doesn't make the same mistake for future games.
You know I already contacted GOG over the issues with this version of the game. And I even ran a little test. Since I purchased the game on steam, I copied the folder with the official maps and pasted it into the GOG version. Works, and i even tested it by loading into one of them. The fact that a copy paste is enough to make it work, and its been so long, tells me everything I need to know about the dev and his intentions for the GOG version. 6 months of having to edit the config file to have access to the 4th multiplayer dungeon also. On the Unepic official site, it clearly states that the GOG version will have official maps, and all GOG games are supposed to be drm free. The dev really needs to fix this, because I have already given up on this version based on how easy it was for ME to fix it. 30 seconds of copy pasting and writing 2 words "empty" into the config file makes this version drm free and have official maps. Dev, ur seriously lazy for not doing this.

Yeah that is a bit of an insult to the players in a way... for them to purchase the game expecting full functionality and it's just that easy to fix? I mean I give him (and crew?) many props for creating this epic game, but that's still pretty bad. I noticed Steam Workshop plays a major function in the Steam version of the game as well.

I've sent a message to GOG asking if it's at all possible to acquire the Steam activation code for the game, seeing as the version here on GOG is incomplete. I don't really want a refund, I do thoroughly enjoy the game, but features are missing. Not sure what version Steam has, but I imagine some story mode features might be missing as well.

Just doesn't seem right that people pay for the game and multiplayer is broken to the point that people can't utilize that half of the game.

hah I tried playing multiplayer by myself just to see how far I could get... that first boss takes some serious work for just one player :P
I posted a fix and upload the official maps to mediafire for the GOG community. You guys dont have to get the steam version to have access to those maps now :). I hope they sticky it until the dev adds them to the gog version. To answer your question, the steam version is 1.50.4, the game is the same on steam, workshop content is just for fun and progression and items dont save. Only the official maps for multiplayer save progression, which is why they are needed. But I uploaded them for you all so you dont need to get it on steam. Hopefully GOG will get the dev to fix it soon.
Thank you for you effort. I hope the dev start to care more of this version (GOG) and Linux users as well. I also purchased the game on Steam during a Humble Bundle promo because the lack of Linux multiplayer here on GOG, but I recently discovered that I cannot play official maps even on Steam (I can play the multiplayer campaign maps, but not the ones refered as "oficial maps"). I'm going to contact him again and see if he can solve this issue. I will also refer him to this.
No reply from GOG yet. Had a reply the next day with other support tickets I sent in.

Unepic is on sale for ~$2.50 on Steam right now. I'm trying to decide whether I should just buy it or not. Steam Workshop content sounds tempting, but if progress is only saved with 'official' maps, well... I'm not so enthused about that.

Also wondering if multiplayer is server-based with Steam or if you still need the host IP in order to join a game... If it's server-based then I might as well buy it simply for ease of access via multiplayer.

Argh so confusing lol.

edit: I asked GOG if I could get a Steam Key since multiplayer is non-functional. If I don't get a reply soon, I might just ask for a refund instead. Could be that they're waiting to hear back from the developer, but I'd like to at least get an update on the status of my inquiry. Sent a message to make sure my ticket didn't get lost...

So, from what I've gathered... in order to get multiplayer to work (if it is 'in fact' functional in the GOG version) you have to open ports and add firewall entries? Not to mention Magic_Of_Light's Official Maps fix and config.cfg fix.

How do we find the host IP for people that are playing the game??

I finally received a reply from GOG Support, in which they seemed to vaguely avoid the question at hand. Stating "there should be no keys required to play online in our release of Unepic, but only Windows version." When you need to have a key in order to register to their website. But, doing so doesn't affect the GOG version's *.cfg file, I assume. Further exacerbating the multiplayer situation we have here.

I replied to the support ticket linking them to several forum entries explaining the problem in better detail.
Basically multiplayer works, but you need to use hamachi. I was unable to get it to work without hamachi even though i tried with multiple people with firewalls off with me/them hosting. The multiplayer here works fine, WITH hamachi. Then there is the official map and config issues that the dev has not worked on yet. You dont need a key to play online with your friends with the GOG version, just hamachi. Otherwise it will sync to host infitely.
