Hello!

After playing Ultima VII with Exult (great experience btw) I thought giving the original a second chance (after the weird sound effects gave me a headache for a weekend).
Well, after I played some time, I wanted to check my level and I didn´t find a function to do this. There was a Menu for that in Exult.
I hope somebody will be able to help me :)

If I recall either by hitting 'i' or 1-8 where the number is corresponding party member like 1 being the avatar, 2 for Iolo and then 3-8 in the order they were recruited.

That should bring up their paper doll from there you click on their "heart" to see stats and click on their back pack for their inventory

Also, pressing Z key will open stats. First press will open stats for the Avatar, and then subsequent Z key presses will open stats for other companions.
