Hi everybody,

much like my Nitpicker's Patch for Ultima VI, I have created one for Ultima 7 Part 1: the Black Gate as well.

It addresses some inconsistencies and mistakes in the canonical story-line and at the same time tries to enhance your gaming experience by fixing some bugs as well as using helpful and convenient patches some of the die-hard Ultima fans at UDIC and elsewhere have come up with over the time.

Bugs fixed are
-> Tseramed’s “Avatar” bug
-> Rankin’s “liqueur” bug
-> Usecode-sniplet is not displayed anymore, when wasting a potion
-> fishing was made possible by Natreg Dragon
-> Iskander quest is solvable, thx to Natreg Dragon

Tweaks & Patches included in this patch are:
-> Tremor fix by ripsaw8080
-> General MIDi patch by Newton Dragon (optional)
-> An extra portrait by Idspi Dragon
-> UltimaHacks by Eureka Dragon

Also, a reworked version of the modern Antiqua font was added: it now displays more text and makes purchase options available, that were hidden before.

For the nitpicks I have addressed, I tried to be as careful as faithful and tried to keep my modifications to a minimum. At the same time, I was able to iron out many mistakes in the canonical story-line and fix obvious mistakes such as wrong directions, ill-named dungeons, non.existing carts and the lot. Due to the spoilerous nature of the list of nitpicks, I will not post them here. But you can find them with a dedicated "Spoiler-Warning" link on my download page, if I got you intrigued by now ;-)

The patch comes with a CMD-Installer, that also configures the patch essential for your first use (including the available keyboard layouts for JohnGlassmyer's wonderful UltimaHacks. These Hacks alone are worth replaying the game. No kidding!

If you stumble upon any peculiarities, find further bugs or mistakes or have any other helpful suggestion: please do let me know.

Enjoy!

Well done, Sir! :)
DOes it work with Exult?
Thanks for your kind words Gotcha. Much appreciated!

Yes, the patch works in Exult If you know how to setup the mod, fine, if not, use the installer accordingly.

Thanks and nice work this rocks :D
Very excited to try this patch.
I'm using Exult and was wondering if it is possible to somehow combine this with keyring mod?

I would love to know that, too! I have copied over my nitpicker-patched files into the "blackgate" folder of Exult. I'm starting Exult with the keyring mod, but I suppose, that the patched files are exchanged by the keyring mod anyway...
Questions regarding Exult belong in Exults forums really (just as the post says): the people over there are much more capable of profound answers.

This said: to the best of my knowledge, it is not possible to run more than one mod in Exult at a time.
What you could try, however, is, patching the original sources of the game with the nitpicker files (aka do not run it as mod, but pretend them to be the original game instead) and run the keyring mod on top of this.

That's pretty amazing! I love little touches like this that make playing through the games back to back a more seamless experience.
Thank you!

Has anyone tried this and could confirm whether it worked? Both mods seem really decent additions to the game and I have a hard time deciding between them.
Thank you! I added to my exult game.
trying to install on Mac, playing via dosbox/gog - anyone know what I need to be copying over and where? Thanks
If you have the original game up and running, just check the content of the zip od the patch and find the filenames and directorystructure in the patch on your harddrive.

Then simply copy everything in STATIC (patch) into STATIC (harddrive) and everything in the parent directory (patch) into the parent directory (harddrive). Rather straightforward really :-)

Have fun!

John
