In this game I can bake bread for money but can I mine for gold or gems? I bought a pick went to Vesper mine and have tried to use equiped pick on walls or ground and attackng with it, but to no effect. Am I doing something wrong or there is just it can't be done?
Can't be done.
There are some mining machines that dig up useless iron/lead, and at least one that digs up blackrock, but you can't mine anything else. The pick is basically useless.

Thanks!
That's sad becouse I heard that it is one of the most "interactive" games out there. Also you can do it in Ultima VI. Oh well I'll have to find another way of income :)
It still is one of the most interactive games, especially for its time. Not many games come near it. :)

You generally find enough resources to buy anything you want, but if you're in a hurry, then the casino is your best bet, especially if you're a Fellowship member.
Play the Roulette table and move gold towards the color that is about to get hit. Been a while since I've played this mini-game, but you should be free to keep moving your money while the wheel is rotating.

In vanilla, I'd advice against creating huge amounts of gold (and other items), since having too many items in the game-world leads to problems.

I don't want to dissmiss value of the game but I just think it would make perfect sens be able to mine if so much other activities are possible :)

And maybe it's little frustrating to constantly hear that everyone is hungry but I don't want to get rich too fast. I'll like this feeling of tension of always being low on cash. It makes every purchase a big decision and joy. Leather pants! Finally :) (I try not to steal).

Thanks for the warning about too many object. I'm not using Exult so I may run into this problem.

Better yet, bet on the races.

Inititally, you can only bet 100 gold, but if you repeat the race without first taking your winnings, you will be able to bet your winnings to get even more money, allowing for exponential growth.

Just remember to save after each round, and reload until you win. This may take a lot of reloading, but it will allow you to grow your gold supply exponentially.

With this method, it won't take long until you get enough gold to crash the game. In fact, sinc e the growth is exponential, it is likely feasible to get even Exult to either run out of memory or lag to the point of being unplayable when using this method.

(If you already have a lot of money, I believe you can save time by betting 100 on all 4 participants the first time; you'll lose 100 gold, but you're guaranteed to have 300 gold on the winner, so on the rematch, you would win 900 gold (if you win).)

THX! I didn't even reach place where races are held :) But nice to know a way to make money if games ecomomy will get annoing :)
I've heard that if you are wearing a Fellowship medallion, you will always win the rat race game at the casino (i.e. the fellowship rigs it for you). Never actually tried it myself though, but worth testing out.

Actually, I heard differently; being a Fellowship member wouldn't affect the odds, but would allow you to win 6 times your bet rather than just 3. This leads to an obvious exploit; bet 100 on each racer, and you are guaranteed a net gain of 200. Not as powerful as the method I mentioned before (because it only gives you 200 each time rather than exponential growth), but doesn't require constant relading, and might be a good choice if you just need a little money rather than enough to crash the game.

Of course, this makes the method I mentioned even faster.
