I bought the 1+2+3 trilogy here, and eventually found some of the keystrokes for U1 by reading the U2 manual. But seriously... is that all the documentation that U1 shipped with? Seems quite unlikely. I mean, I can remember game manuals that spent 30 pages on just how to move the mouse and click the left mouse button.

So a game from Origin with not one word on the commands needed to play it? Very suspect. Although there was a mention of the "Pilot's Reference Guide" or something, so it seems likely that something is missing.

My first Ultima was #6, so this is.. a rude awakening. :)

You should have

1. Manual
2. Reference card (keyboard shortcuts etc)
3. Maps

I don't know if GOG version includes all those.

There is link to Ultima Archive, where you can find what you need:

Thanks for the good info!
Looks like the GoG version only comes with that manual. No reference card, no maps - for Ultima 1 at least.

Very poor, GoG. Selling us a game without even the (very needed) keyboard commands. First time I've ever been disappointed with GoG. I understand that they might not get this stuff from EA, but at the very least they could have put together a list of commands themselves.

Have you contacted gog? I don't own Ultima 1-3. They really should have all the documents that came with Ultima 1. EA wouldn't have to send them. They'd just have to get the okay, download them from somewhere, and upload them.
I second the problem here. GOG did not include the reference cards, which are actually more the manual than the "manual" is. The uo.com link given above is down but I seem to have found copies here:

...as it turns out the forum doesn't allow me to post links but the site is c64sets dot-com, in the alphabetized list under boxed sets there is an Ultima I entry.

I will contact GOG about this, it is also the first time I have been disappointed.

I believe the issue here is that GOG gets the bulk of their documentation from replacementdocs.com. They only have the manual there so that's all GOG has to go on. They generally don't trawl the net looking for complete documentation and will only provide non-replacementdocs materials when they're provided by a user (which you can try to do in this case).

For the maps, manual, reference card, and even scans of the coins you can go here: http://www.pixsoriginadventures.co.uk/downloads/. I'd also suggest checking out this thread for a LOT of links dealing with every one of the Ultima games (including a link to Pix's page near the top).

Neat link, thanks.

I still have my little cloth bag with the coins from the original Ultima 1 I bought in the 1980s. Not to mention the cool cloth map that came with Ultima 4. I'm glad I kept that stuff.
I've sent a message to support saying that they are missing the reference card and maps for Ultima I. I also gave them the link to this thread as well as the links to the PDFs for the missing reference card and maps. They thanked me and said they will send the information to the product team so they can take care of the problem. Hopefully, we'll see the missing documentation here soon.

I guess not. Ive just started playing it, and literally just pushed every key to see what it did. I managed to buy and mount a horse, but still have no idea how to heal.

Your best bet is to follow some of the links in this thread.

Six years later and still no Ultima 1 documentation...

Thanks everyone for the links, though!
Since there is some new activity here I thought I would share a documentation resource I just found. Nice scans of all the original docs and package contents of Ultimas 1-9.

But since I am new to posting I can not post a real link.

This thread still lacks a proper link to the original DOS reference card for Ultima 1 (the best it has is for the C64).

Anyone manage to find a good reference card with all the instructions on how to play Ultima 1?

It's 2020 and still no further documentation.
I managed to find a reference card in the link provided by VisElEchNon
